Plot twist of the week: the 10-year yield actually went down.
While the headlines were doing their usual thing:
• AI stocks decided to have an existential crisis (chipmakers really said “we need a minute”)
• Oil kept acting like it got invited to every conflict because “energy ceasefire” was apparently just a suggestion
• The IMF gently reminded everyone the economy’s safety net has a few holes in it
…the 10-year Treasury yield quietly declined.
Bond investors got a little treat. Mortgage rates got a tiny bit less painful. And the people with diversified portfolios got to watch the chaos from a more comfortable chair.
Your emergency fund still doesn’t care about any of this. It’s just sitting there, unbothered, collecting its boring little interest while the rest of the world debates ceasefires and chip shortages.
Silver lining: lower yields are a nice reminder that not every headline is a five-alarm fire for your plan. Sometimes the boring stuff works exactly when the exciting stuff doesn’t.
What’s the most “unexpectedly fine” part of your portfolio this week?
