Bill and Katie at the 1st Responders Conference on Monday and Tuesday this week at Mirabeau Hotel. This conference deals with the very real effect of PTSD on our 1st Responder community. It was very eye opening for us to hear firsthand how the difficult calls 1st Responders deal with on a daily basis can really take a toll on their mental health. We want our 1st Responders to know that they are so very important to us and we appreciate what they do for us daily. We will always love you and be in your corner with you trying to give you as much support and help as we can. We owe it to you! ❤️💙🇺🇸🚑🚓🚒🇺🇸💙❤️

To all our SPD friends;
This week our family of blue suffered a tremendous loss. Lt. Jon (JD) Anderson passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, July 5th. This sudden, tragic event has left a large hole in the heart of the Spokane Police Department.

Lt. Anderson was hired with SPD on September 11, 1992. Prior to SPD, he worked for Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. In his nearly thirty years with SPD, Lt. Anderson held every rank from Officer to Lieutenant, to include Police Officer 1st Class, Detective, Corporal, and Sergeant. Lt. Anderson served as a Neighborhood Resource Officer, a Motor Officer, a member of the TAC Team, as well as a leader of SPD’s Honor Guard. Lt. Anderson led SPD’s Special Events Office as a Sergeant starting in 2012, responsible for ensuring the safety of major events like Bloomsday, The Lilac Parade, Hoopfest, and remained involved even after being promoted to Lieutenant.

Lt. Anderson has been the SPD Assistant Commander for Hoopfest the past several years. The Saturday of Hoopfest just this year you could find him in the command post bringing in water, Gatorade, and Otter Pops for the officers monitoring the event.

During his service, Lt. Anderson received the Silver Star; awarded to department employees who have displayed courageous actions, which are above and beyond that which is normally expected of an employee. He was also the recipient of two Chief’s Citations; awarded to the members of a team or unit for participating in an incident, event, or series of events or projects, which has a substantial positive impact on the community or the police department.

Outside of SPD, Lt. Anderson was involved in many other important endeavors. He was on the board of Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS), Vice President of the Lieutenants and Captains Association, and Chairman of the Board at Responders Emergency Services Credit Union (RESCU).

JD’s life of service made a significant impact, not only within the Spokane Police Department, but reaching further into the Spokane Community and beyond. JD leaves behind his wife Michelle, his daughter Jordyn, parents Deanna and Ret. SPD Capt. Dave Anderson, and sisters Vicki Anderson-Snider (SPD Ofc. Ryan Snider) and Kathryn Dobson. Our hearts go out to them as well as his extended family and the many people who hold him dear outside SPD. Rest in Peace L126, we have the watch from here.

It is with great sadness we inform our members of the passing of JD Anderson. JD was a Lt with Spokane PD, a dedicated WACOPS member, former WACOPS Board Member, and current President of WACOPS LDG. JD died this morning after a medical emergency. We will miss him. We miss him already. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and all who loved him. God's speed JD.
