With hurricane season coming we all watch the satellite images to figure out when to prepare. Back in the 60's it wasn't so easy. Camille was the first that was recorded as video in 1969.

This article chronicles the systems in use as well as the fascinating FILM cameras launched into orbit that ejected their film to be returned to earth and caught by airplanes as they fell to later be developed and analyzed.

We've come a long ways since those days.

It may be hard to believe, but there will be a REAL 1970 RICHARD PETTY SUPERBIRD among nearly 50 race cars at the show on June 13 at St Joseph’s Villa!

This Petty Superbird is one of the four race cars designed by Nichole’s Engineering and built by Plymouth with the sole purpose of bringing Richard back to race for Plymouth. In 1969, Petty had a great season driving for Ford, as he finished second in the National Championship. To return to Plymouth, Petty wanted a car that looked like the 1969 Dodge Daytona. Plymouth scrambled to design and build 1920 street-legal cars in order for NASCAR to approve it to race.
This car, along with 3 others, were delivered to Petty Enterprises in late 1969 for the 1970 NASCAR season. Equipped with a highly tuned 426 Hemi, it made well over 600 hp. It was one of the first NASCAR cars to exceed 200 mph, notably at Talladega. Petty won five races with this car.
At the end of the 1970 season, NASCAR banned “wing” cars due to the safety concern of their 200 mph speeds. For the 1971 and 1972 seasons, this car raced as a Roadrunner until it was wrecked and retired to the Petty Junkyard.
After the wreck, this car sat in Petty’s Junkyard until 1976 when longtime friends Richard Petty and Hugh Hawthorne worked out a deal to restore two of the original Superbirds. One would be for Richard, the other for Hugh. It took two years for the Petty Enterprise to completely restore this car to its 1970 specs. This car has been in Hugh’s family since 1978 and at one time, displayed in his living room.
According to the records, there are only three Petty Superbirds in existence: one at Richard Petty’s place in North Carolina, the Pete Hamilton Superbird in Florida, and this Superbird!

Insurance tip: never assume the dealership added your new car to your policy.

They may say, “We’ll call your insurance company.”

That does not mean the job is done.

Your insurance company generally needs to confirm policy changes directly with you. If the vehicle does not get added correctly and the DMV catches it, you could be the one facing a suspended license, fees, and fines.

The smart move is simple:
