It's SUMMER VACATION TIME!
One question I am asked on nearly a weekly basis is this.. "I am going out of town and will be renting a car, am I covered by my personal policy?"
Here is my answer:
Yes!... and NO
If you carry liability, comprehensive, and collision coverage on at least 1 of your personal vehicles, then you are covered by those same limits and deductibles on a rental car.
HOWEVER, there are 2 BIG reasons to take the coverage the rental company offers you..
1) Using the coverage they offer allows you to literally walk away if anything happens and you won't have a claim filed against your personal auto insurance.
2) Loss of use is not covered by your personal policy. If you have an accident, the rental company has the right to charge YOU for their "Loss of Use" meaning they can charge you an additional amount for every day they are unable to rent that car out while it is being repaired in a shop. When you take their policy, you don't have to worry about this.
