Yep - you're allowed to interview me. βΊοΈ Almost every first call opens the same way: "What's your rate?" And I get it, that's the number the internet talks about, but it's the least useful thing you could lead with. So, here's what I'd ask if I were sitting where you are:
βοΈ Which loan programs do you think fit my situation, and why those over the others?
βοΈ Are we planning my mortgage strategy with both my short and long-term financial goals in mind? (This is a BIG one!)
βοΈ What's my full cash to close, not just the down payment?
βοΈ Who actually touches my file day to day, and who do I call when something comes up on a Friday afternoon?
βοΈ How fast do you usually close, and what's the thing that most often slows it down?
A lender who's happy to sit in those questions with you is the one you want, and a lender who gets impatient and steers you back to rate is telling you something about how the rest of it will go. βΊοΈ
Save this before your first lender call!
