Nine million dollars.
Less than a decade later, $446 million.
That’s how dramatically reported losses from real estate wire fraud grew in less than ten years.
But the number only tells part of the story.
Behind those losses are real people. A buyer’s down payment. A seller’s equity. Money that may have taken years, or decades, to build. And as the way fraud happens continues to change, the way our industry protects people has to change with it. That means continuing to strengthen our processes. Continuing to evaluate the technology we use. Continuing to educate the people we serve. And never assuming that what protected a transaction yesterday will be enough tomorrow.
Because when someone entrusts us with one of the most significant transactions of their life, protecting that trust is part of the responsibility.
Fraud keeps evolving. So must we.
