I learned about layoffs earlier than I ever expected.
At 24, I experienced my first buyout after the company I worked for filed for bankruptcy and was sold.
Since then, I’ve lived through and watched restructures, corporate cash-flow challenges, COVID, acquisitions and layoffs impact colleagues, friends and families.
Different circumstances. Same reminder:
Your job can change in an instant.
And when you leave an employer, one of the things you don’t automatically take with you is your benefits.
The life insurance.
The disability coverage.
The protection you assumed would be there.
They belonged to the benefits package — not necessarily to you.
But what if you owned some of that protection yourself?
Coverage that wasn’t dependent on your title, your employer or the next corporate restructuring. Protection designed to stay with you as your career changes.
Because losing a job is difficult enough.
Compound that with an illness, an injury that prevents you from working, or the loss of someone your family depends on, and an already difficult situation can become financially devastating.
I’ve seen enough unexpected career changes to believe deeply in preparing before you need the protection.
Life is unpredictable. Be prepared.
Not sure what you actually own versus what belongs to your employer?
Let’s have that conversation. I’d be happy to help you prepare. ❤️
