The Fed made its move, what’s next..? 👀
This meeting officially kicked off a new rate-hiking cycle, and Kevin Warsh came across more hawkish than markets were hoping for.
💡Translation: we could see some short-term volatility and upward pressure on mortgage rates. 📈
But there’s another side to this..

Higher Fed rates are designed to cool inflation and slow parts of the economy. If that ultimately brings inflation back under control, or the economy slows significantly, that can create the conditions for longer-term bond yields and mortgage rates to move lower.
So while this may be uncomfortable for rates in the short term, it could help build a healthier foundation for rates to trend lower over time.
Just as importantly, the Fed is signaling that its decisions will be based on the broader economy and inflation outlook, rather than political pressure, which matters for maintaining confidence in the institution.
Short term: expect volatility.
Long term: this could be part of what eventually helps rates come back down.
