Statement by Global Bank President Ron Nechemia on the Earthquakes in Venezuela
I am deeply saddened by the devastating earthquakes that have struck Venezuela, causing tragic loss of life, injuries, widespread damage to homes and critical infrastructure, and significant hardship for communities across the affected regions.
“On behalf of Global Bank, I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and my sincere wishes for the full recovery of those who have been injured,” said Global Bank President Ron Nechemia. “In times of profound tragedy, solidarity must be demonstrated not only through words, but through coordinated action that helps communities recover with dignity, resilience, and hope.”
We also recognize the extraordinary dedication of emergency responders, healthcare professionals, local authorities, humanitarian organizations, and community volunteers who continue to work tirelessly under extremely challenging conditions to rescue survivors, provide lifesaving assistance, and restore essential services.
This tragedy serves as a powerful reminder that while earthquakes cannot be prevented, their human and economic impacts can be significantly reduced through stronger building standards, resilient infrastructure, effective preparedness, coordinated emergency response systems, and sustained investment in disaster risk reduction.
“Recovery must go beyond rebuilding what was lost; it must strengthen resilience against future disasters,” President Nechemia said. “The true measure of reconstruction is whether families, communities, and public institutions emerge safer, stronger, and better prepared for the challenges ahead.”
Global Bank stands in solidarity with the people of Venezuela during this difficult time. We remain committed to supporting recovery efforts by mobilizing technical expertise, strategic partnerships, and resilient reconstruction planning that strengthens preparedness, protects vulnerable communities, and promotes long-term sustainable development.
Our immediate priority is to support efforts that save lives, assist those who have been displaced, restore critical services, and ensure that recovery lays the foundation for a safer and more resilient future.
