Private markets continue to grow, and the SEC is paying close attention to how private assets are valued and how that information is presented to investors.

In a September 28 statement, SEC staff discussed fair value measurement and disclosure considerations for private assets, including private credit.

According to the SEC, private credit investments held by registered funds increased from approximately $170 billion in December 2020 to $270 billion in December 2025.
