Mortgage news this week were kind of slow. But this is the highlinght of the week.
The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.37% as of April 9, 2026, down from 6.46% the prior week, according to Freddie Mac's latest survey. A year ago, the same rate averaged 6.62%.
The dip is good news for buyers, but the relief may be short-lived. Inflation surged to 3.3% , the highest level in nearly two years, above the Fed's 2% target, raising concerns that lenders could respond with higher rates in the near term.
Thats up for this week, keep tuned for more mortgage news.
