The best time to prepare for Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period is right now.
From October 15 through December 7, Medicare beneficiaries can review and make changes to their health and prescription drug coverage for the following year. But waiting until the deadline is near can make an already complicated decision feel even more stressful.

Your plan can change from year to year, even if you do not. Premiums, prescription drug coverage, provider networks, pharmacy networks, copays, and benefits may all look different next year.

That is why it is important to review your current coverage before enrollment begins. Start by looking at your Annual Notice of Change, making a current medication list, noting the doctors and pharmacies you prefer, and identifying the benefits that matter most to you.

At Saratoga Medicare Advisors, we help make Medicare simple. We will review your coverage, compare the details that matter, and help you make an informed decision with confidence.

🚨 Your RMDs could be raising your Medicare premiums.

Required Minimum Distributions from a traditional IRA or 401(k) can increase your taxable income. For some retirees, that higher income can trigger an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount, also known as IRMAA, on top of Medicare Part B and Part D premiums.

The important detail is timing. Medicare generally uses income information from two years earlier when determining whether IRMAA applies. That means the retirement-income decisions you make today can affect what you pay for Medicare later.

The goal is not to make a last-minute decision. It is to understand the connection early enough to plan thoughtfully. Depending on your individual situation, that may mean discussing Roth conversions before RMDs begin, coordinating withdrawal timing, and working alongside your financial advisor and tax professional.

Every person’s situation is different, but awareness creates options.

If you are approaching retirement or already taking RMDs, Saratoga Medicare Advisors can help you understand how IRMAA may affect your Medicare costs.

When your life changes, your insurance coverage may need to as well. The good news is that Medicare allows for special enrollment periods (SEPs) for certain types of major life events.

🚨 Your required minimum distributions could be increasing what you pay for Medicare.

Here is why. Medicare uses income information from the IRS to determine whether you will pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount, better known as IRMAA, on top of your Medicare Part B and prescription drug coverage premiums.

For many retirees, Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from a traditional IRA or 401(k) can raise taxable income more than expected. If that income moves you into a higher IRMAA bracket, your Medicare costs may rise by hundreds—or even thousands of dollars over the year.

The good news is that understanding the connection early can help you plan ahead. Depending on your situation, retirement-income strategies may include Roth conversions before RMDs begin, more strategic withdrawal timing, and coordinated conversations with your financial advisor and tax professional.

Every situation is different, but the sooner you understand how retirement income and Medicare work together, the better prepared you can be.

If you are approaching retirement or already taking RMDs, Saratoga Medicare Advisors can help you understand how IRMAA may affect your Medicare costs.

🚨 Important Update: Medicare Part D Changes for 2027
If you have a standalone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, there is a major shift coming that could impact your monthly budget.

For the past two years, a federal "stabilization" program has kept premiums from rising too quickly. That temporary assistance is ending after 2026.

Here is what you need to know:
✅ Premium Increases: Many Part D plans are expected to see higher monthly premiums in 2027. While the average increase is projected to be under $10/month, the actual impact will depend on your specific plan and location.

✅ The $2,400 Cap: The good news is that the out-of-pocket limit is not going away. In 2027, your total costs for covered drugs will be capped at $2,400 providing continued protection from catastrophic costs.

✅ Don't "Set It and Forget It": Because insurance companies adjust their premiums, drug lists (formularies), and pharmacy networks every year, your current plan might not be your best value in 2027.

During this upcoming Annual Enrollment Period, comparing your options is more critical than ever.
At Saratoga Medicare Advisors, we take the guesswork out of the process. We’ll review your medications and compare plans across multiple companies to ensure you have the best coverage at the best price.
