A million new millionaires last year. The typical person got poorer.

UBS says global wealth jumped 10.8% in 2025 β€” but median wealth (the person in the middle) actually **fell** in most countries. In the U.S., the average is up ~10% since 2020; the median's down ~20% after inflation.

Stocks and property did the minting. Paychecks got left behind.

$24.5M. Never listed. The buyer? A cartoon pirate. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ

Brooklyn's priciest home of the year just changed hands at 192 Columbia Heights β€” no listing, no open house, completely off-market.

The name on the deed? An anonymous LLC called "Luffy and Friends" β€” a wink at the treasure-hunting anime pirate.

The treasure hunt's over. The rest of us just found out it happened.

Christopher Nolan's Odyssey made $264M in 3 days β€” and it still might lose money.

- πŸ’° $264M opening weekend ($124.5M home + $139.6M overseas)
- πŸ’Έ ~$375M to make + market it
- 🎟️ Theaters keep about half of every ticket sold
- πŸ“‰ So it needs ~$700M worldwide just to break even

Even the cast took the discount β€” Damon, Zendaya, Hathaway and Holland reportedly worked for a fraction of their usual $15–20M.

A record opening and a profit are two very different things.

Apple put ChatGPT on every iPhone and now it's suing OpenAI for stealing its secrets.

On Friday, July 10, Apple filed suit in California β€” naming OpenAI and two former Apple employees.

The complaint claims 400+ ex-Apple employees now work at OpenAI… allegedly "at every level."

The hardware chief? Tang Tan β€” 24 years at Apple, designed the iPhone and Apple Watch. Add the $6.4B OpenAI paid for Jony Ive's design startup, and OpenAI's hardware team is basically Apple's old bench.

The wildest part (all per Apple's complaint): candidates were allegedly told to bring real Apple parts to interviews for "show and tell." One engineer allegedly kept his Apple laptop to pull confidential files.

OpenAI says it has "no interest in other companies' trade secrets" β€” and its IPO may now slip to 2027. But whenever it goes public, a lawsuit means discovery… and its secret device plans could still get dragged into court.

The device hasn't shipped. The fight already has.

$158 billion pay package. $0 actually taken home.

Elon Musk just topped the WSJ's annual CEO pay ranking β€” his Tesla package is valued at ~$158B, roughly 16x what all 391 other CEOs on the list made combined.

Here's the catch: It's entirely stock tied to milestones. Tesla missed its 2025 targets, so his realized pay for the year was zero. He only touches it if Tesla hits its marks over the next decade.

Headline pay and take-home pay turn out to be two very different things.

Goldman just made a record $7.4B trading stocks in a single quarter πŸ“ˆ

The thing is, that number isn't really about Goldman.

Trading revenue is a scoreboard for how much investors are buying. And in Q2, they couldn't get enough: semiconductors +88% (best in ~30 years) on the AI trade, Nasdaq +27.7%, S&P +15%.

The more everyone trades, the bigger Goldman's paycheck. So a record quarter for Goldman is really a record quarter for market appetite.

The real question: does that appetite hold? πŸ‘‡

Q3 call β€” πŸ“ˆ keep piling in or πŸ“‰ party cools off? Drop your pick.

Someone just bought a $56 million San Francisco mansion β€” and it was never listed for sale.

2898 Vallejo in Pacific Heights just traded for $56M, the city's biggest home sale since 2024. No public listing. No open house. No price online. If you weren't already in the conversation, you never knew it was available.

That's how the top of the market actually works: the priciest homes change hands off-market β€” a broker quietly matching a short list of qualified buyers, long before (if ever) anything goes public.

The real luxury isn't the house. It's access to the deals nobody else can even see.

Send this to the friend who thinks they know how real estate money actually moves. πŸ‘‡

A Super Mario Bros. cartridge just sold for $3 million. The same one that cost $30 in 1985. πŸ„

And it's not because it's rare and old β€” Nintendo made tens of millions of these.

What's actually worth $3M? A sticker.

For a few weeks in early 1986, Nintendo sealed a small batch with a glossy sticker seal before switching to shrink-wrap. This is 1 of only 3 known sealed copies from that run β€” graded PSA 9.6 A++.

It's now the most anyone has ever paid for a video game at public auction, beating the $2M record set by… the same game in 2021.

Scarcity is what mints a true collectible.

Be honest β€” did you keep your old game boxes, or did they hit the trash? πŸ‘‡

"You earn the title you want."

We got Fahad and David talking about the thing every startup dances around: titles.

Fahad's gripe? People obsess over the title on the offer letter. His advice: care about equity, comp, and scope. The title's the least interesting part.

Where does our network land β€” are titles overrated at startups, or do they matter more than we admit?
