⚠️STORY TIME:
I have a similar story dating back to 2017 which was senior year of high school where I wanted to study abroad in Germany because I took AP German and was very literate in it.
However, even though I was perfectly capable of doing so, my mother brought up how my brother needs me who has various health conditions. Plus, she cried, which made me feel even more guilty for wanting to leave. So because of that, I stayed in the US and simply chose a university in our state of Texas. And that university just so happened to be the one my mother attended herself.
Of course, had I not been guilt tripped, I likely wouldn’t be doing the work that I do today helping students with college financial aid. But even so, it is not OK to do such a thing because as seen from the examples in this video, it can not only cause short term harm, but also long-term as well.
