Keep the paperwork that proves what is on your roof.

Texas says tested impact-resistant roofing may be eligible for a premium credit, with Class 4 roofing receiving the highest credit level. But the amount and required proof are set company by company.

Ask your contractor to identify the manufacturer, product or brand, impact-resistance class, testing standard, and installation date. Keep the invoice, warranty, installation records, and clear photos.

Texas is pushing for storm-resistant home discounts.

The Texas Department of Insurance is urging home insurers to recognize storm- and wildfire-resistant improvements with premium discounts — and roofs built to recognized resilience standards are one example.

The fine print: each insurance company decides what qualifies, what proof it accepts, and whether a credit is even available. A stronger roof may reduce risk, but it does not automatically change a premium or coverage.

A quiet season is useful breathing room.

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has been unusually quiet — through September 28, seven named tropical storms formed and none reached hurricane strength. Welcome news, but the season runs through November 30, and East Texas can still see damaging wind, hail, and heavy rain.
