❄️ Cold Weather Alert for the Upper Valley NH & VT❄️
A significant Arctic cold blast is expected to move into the Upper Valley late this week, bringing dangerously low temperatures, harsh wind chills, and prolonged sub-freezing conditions through the weekend and into next week. A winter storm may also bring snow and ice, increasing the risk of property damage throughout our area.
Now is a good time to take a few proactive steps to protect your home—and your coverage:
✔️ Keep your home heated consistently, even if you’re away
✔️ Insulate exposed pipes, especially in basements, crawl spaces, and exterior walls
✔️ Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses
✔️ Allow faucets to drip slightly during extreme cold
✔️ Clear gutters and downspouts to help prevent ice dams
✔️ If pipes freeze, keep faucets open and apply gentle heat—never use open flames
In New England winters like this, failure to take reasonable precautions during extreme cold can, in some cases, impact coverage eligibility—so prevention really matters.
For personal safety, we also recommend:
• Dressing in layers
• Limiting time outdoors
• Keeping emergency supplies in your vehicle
• Blocking drafts around doors and windows
• Checking on elderly neighbors and family members
If you’re traveling, own a seasonal property, or have questions about winter weather risks, frozen pipes, or how your policy responds, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help our Upper Valley neighbors stay protected.
