80 YEARS OF GROCERY OUTLET AND A MORNING WE WON’T FORGET! 🎉❤️
Fresh Beginnings Ministries showed up bright and early at 7:50 AM to celebrate the 8:00 AM ribbon cutting and Grand Reopening of Grocery Outlet Costa Mesa — part of Grocery Outlet’s incredible 80th anniversary celebration!
And what a morning it was.
Our own Bill Nelson had the honor of cutting the ribbon… and then Grocery Outlet surprised us with a $4,900 check! 🙌
That check represents more than a number — it represents food, families, volunteers, neighbors helping neighbors, and a partnership making a real difference in our community.
Fresh Beginnings Ministries is proud to be a Rescue Food Partner of Grocery Outlet Costa Mesa. Thanks to this partnership and the generosity of our community, FBM helps provide food to more than 500 families each month.
None of it happens alone.
Behind every box, pickup, sort, pack and distribution are 200 incredible volunteers who make it possible.
This December marks 11 years of Grocery Outlet Costa Mesa serving our community, and we’re deeply grateful for the partnership we’ve built together.
Today was also about celebrating Grocery Outlet itself.
Founded in 1946 by Jim Read, what began as Cannery Sales in San Francisco has grown nationwide — still guided by a mission that fits mornings like this:
“Touching Lives for the Better.”
And that’s exactly what happened today.
The celebration was FUN too!
The first 100 customers received scratchers worth $10–$100 off groceries, plus prizes, gift cards, rubber duckies and koozies. Owner Alan Kumura kept the prize wheel spinning all morning!
And after accepting a giant $4,900 check, Bill had one important question:
“So… how exactly do I put this thing in the ATM?” 😂
We’re still figuring that out.
Thank you to Alan, the entire Grocery Outlet Costa Mesa team, Grocery Outlet, and everyone who came out this morning.
Congratulations on 80 years, Grocery Outlet!
And thank you for showing what happens when a local business and a local nonprofit work together for the community they both call home.
Here’s to the next 80! ❤️
