Some places just feel like home the moment you walk in.

Kimura General Store in Papaikou has been that place for over 100 years. What started as T. Hironaka Store — a sugar plantation community hub founded in 1921 — lives on today as a native, family-owned mom and pop that refuses to let that tradition die.

Cold drinks, fresh musubi, hot grinds, grab-and-go plates, homemade sandwiches, shave ice, fishing supplies — they’ve got everything you need and a whole lot of aloha to go with it. Oh, and keep an eye out for Beans, their beloved cat mascot.

Crib was started in 2013 by Sesha, a local Hilo girl who wanted to combine her love for consignment with Hawaii’s generous gift-giving spirit. What she built is something special, a children’s boutique specializing in local brands that has become a go-to destination for families on the Big Island.

Walk through the door and you will find locally inspired gifts and quality consignment all under one roof. The shelves are stocked with Hawaii-made clothing, toys, books, blankets, bags, and accessories with brands you won’t find at a big box store. From keiki apparel in island prints to lei-making kits, Hawaii-themed board books, and Aloha Collection splash-proof bags, every corner of the shop reflects a deep pride in supporting local makers and vendors statewide.

Sesha put it best herself: “People love to shop local and support local vendors and I love being that middle man to present beautiful things to my community.”

You can find Crib at 578 Hinano Street, Suite 105 in Hilo, open Monday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
