"What should I do with this money?"
It's a question I hear often after an inheritance, life insurance payout, business sale, bonus, or other financial windfall.
My answer is always the same: Start with a plan.
Imagine hiring a contractor and handing them a toolbox. Would you want them picking a tool before they knew the job?
Of course not.
Investing is a tool. It helps accomplish goals, but before choosing the tool, you have to understand the job it's meant to do.
When someone recommends an investment without first understanding your goals, timeline, tax situation, income needs, and priorities, how do you know it's the right tool?
The investment should follow the plan, not the other way around.
