A championship football team doesn’t succeed because every player tries to win the game on his own. The 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬, 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦, 𝘤𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴 and 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 all have different responsibilities, but they depend on one another. Their strength comes from working together toward the same goal.

Your retirement strategy shouldn’t be any different.

𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 are one player. 𝘛𝘢𝘹 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘺 is another. 𝘙𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦, 𝘚𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 and 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 each have their own assignments. But when those decisions are made independently, even a good play in one area can create problems somewhere else.

That’s the power of financial teamwork.

At Barnett Financial & Tax, the Barnett Advantage is built around coordination—bringing the different parts of your financial life together, so your financial professionals are working from the same playbook toward the same goal.

As Lombardi understood, there’s strength in unity.

And when retirement is the game you’ve spent a lifetime preparing for, you don’t just need good players.

Today, August 28, is National Thoughtful Day, a relatively new observance created to encourage something timeless: intentionally letting other people know they matter. The idea began with simple gestures—a handwritten note, a small gift, remembering someone who could use a brighter day—but thoughtfulness can extend far beyond that.

At Barnett Financial & Tax, Gage Harris explains why thoughtfulness is part of the way we believe clients should be treated. It means remembering the little things, anticipating needs, checking in, celebrating milestones, and building relationships that extend beyond statements, accounts, and annual meetings.

Courtesy is treating someone well when they’re in front of you. Thoughtfulness is thinking about them when they’re not.

Happy National Thoughtful Day from all of us at BFT.

Today is Women’s Equality Day.

From earning the right to vote to leading companies and opening doors for generations that follow, women have transformed what opportunity looks like in America.

Equality doesn’t mean identical paths, especially when it comes to retirement planning.

Women often enter retirement with less accumulated savings than men, while statistically living longer and potentially needing those savings to provide income for more years. That makes thoughtful, individualized financial planning especially important.

Today, we celebrate women and recognize that the road ahead deserves a financial plan designed for where you’re going.

What if your retirement had a compass?

Retirement isn’t simply about reaching a certain number in your account. It’s about knowing how to turn what you’ve built into income, freedom, purpose, and a legacy that lasts.

That’s why Rick Barnett wrote True North: How to Navigate Retirement, Financial Freedom, & a Lasting Legacy.

Now an Amazon Bestseller, True North was written to help you think beyond accumulation and start asking the questions that matter most: How do I make my money last? How can I reduce unnecessary taxes? How do I protect the people I love? And what do I want my wealth to accomplish after I’m gone?

Your retirement deserves more than guesswork. It deserves a direction.

Could paying some taxes today help you pay LESS in taxes during retirement?

That’s the idea behind two powerful retirement-planning tools: Roth contributions and Roth conversions. 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 put after-tax dollars into a Roth account, where qualified withdrawals can later be tax-free. Very useful since tax rates are at a low point in history, and according to most estimates, likely to go up. A 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 moves money from a traditional, tax-deferred retirement account into a Roth; the taxable portion of that conversion generally becomes income in the year you convert it.

But simply having access to a Roth doesn’t automatically save you money. The strategy is in the 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵? 𝘐𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴? 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘢𝘹𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘢𝘹 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦? A thoughtful Roth strategy can mean intentionally paying taxes at one point in your retirement journey in an effort to reduce your tax exposure later. That’s why planning is so important.

🏈 Retirement Is a Team Sport.
You wouldn’t expect a football team to win if the quarterback, offensive line, receivers, and running backs were all running different plays.
Your financial life shouldn’t work that way either.
Taxes. Investments. Retirement income. Social Security. Estate planning. Each has a different job, but they all need to be working from the same playbook.
That’s the idea behind the Barnett Advantage: bringing the different pieces of your financial life together, coordinating the game plan, and making adjustments when life calls an audible.
Because retirement isn’t about winning one play. It’s about moving the chains, protecting the ball, and putting yourself in position to reach the goal line with your trophy in hand.
