A dear friend of ours posted this on her page. I thought I would share it with all of you.

I would like to expose a situation. If your children don't learn with children with special needs at school and have never been taught that not everyone is equal, maybe you should spend 10 minutes tonight to explain it to them, because although they don't currently live with these children at school, they will find them in their lives for sure.
In light of recent events regarding the exclusion of a child with autism from attending a school trip and a child with Down Syndrome being expelled from dance class because she couldn't keep up with it, I feel the need to share this. There are boys and girls that no one invites to birthday parties. There are special children who want to be part of a team but are not selected because it's more important to win than to include these children. Kids with special needs aren't weird , they just want what everyone wants: to be accepted!
Can I ask a question? Is there anyone willing to copy and paste this post on their wall without sharing it, like I did, for all the special children out there?
Please teach your children to be kind to these beautiful children!

My son Curtis has declared his admission into the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) this fall in the early entry Pharmacy program. He is super excited and is finishing up his last semester of High School. He has worked so hard to keep his grades up during the pandemic and at the same time with the help of his mom Stephanie, my wife, he is in the running for several scholarships. Tonight he is on a zoom call and we will know whether of not he will be receiving a very prestigious award. His goal and is to have enough money from scholarships to pay for all of his first year in school, without any loans. We are so proud of the man he has become.

As you know I live down in Galveston, Texas with my family. This winter storm put more people in compromised safety positions than any major hurricane ever has. We had no power, no water for quite a number of days. I would imagine that our congressman and women, senators and any other elected officials were in significant life altering positions with their own safety and that of their families. All 256 counties in Texas were effected. Even if they could access resources they could not get to anyone. And the resources could not get in. My life order has always been, God, family, neighbors and then the general public. If you never experienced it you do not have any idea of what is going through a persons mind. Just in my region, the Houston area there were almost 3,000,000 people without power. So, yes you could warm yourself in the car until you needed gas, and then the gas stations have no power to pump. Our news media chooses to look for the political news and exploit what they believe is wrong. Personally, what a Senator, Congressman, Mayor, or even the President did or has not done was not on my mind. Closest thing I have experienced to "just survive" in my lifetime.

Who would have thought?

Snow in Galveston.

Single-digit temperatures with the wind chill.

No power for over 3 days.

No water as of right now today.

No school for the whole week including tomorrow.

It's as if the whole city just came to a stop.

No stoplights either.

Makes you take a step back and take a good look at your life and what is important.

Stay warm, stay safe, and things will be better tomorrow.

Well, I left a wonderful message about my son Curtis not too long ago and now I need to mention my daughter Ruby's achievement.

Every year in school the students are required to take the PSAT in order to prepare for the taking of standardized tests as well as the SAT and ACT in readying herself for college.

Although it wasn't broadcast around the Galveston School District, a school administrator mentioned to her in private that she received the highest score in all of eight grade in Galveston.

She is one smart cookie.

We love her and are very proud of her too.

The best storage facility in Galveston is Galveston Island Storage.

Jason Hayes is the owner and one of the first people I met when I arrived in Galveston in 2018.

He is more prominently known for Cruise parking.

However, as you know cruises have been sidelined for many months.

He decided to expand his storage facility at 37th and Harborside Drive.

Storage units there are secure, easy to access, covered, and most importantly in Galveston, high and dry.

We moved from Northern Illinois with a house full of furniture and appliances and Galveston Island storage delivered.

We have been there ever since and would recommend them to anyone.

My son Curtis is a senior at Ball High School in Galveston, Texas.

He is a fantastic student and captain of his swim team.

He will be graduating in May from the Bio-Medical community and is looking forward to pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in the fall.

He has applied to many colleges and universities.

He has been accepted by Ole Miss (University of Mississippi), LSU Louisiana State University), the University of Texas - Dallas, University of Houston, and the University of the Incarnate Word.



There are three remaining universities that we haven't heard from yet, University of Texas - Austin, Texas A and M, and Clemson.

In addition to his super hard work in school preparing himself for college, he applied to many scholarship opportunities and was granted a four year scholarship from the Moody Foundation.

Words cannot describe the level of pride we have for him.

He earned it.

He is our son and we love him dearly.

He has become a fine young man.

What a gift to us from God!
