I had a conversation with a friend this week after a hailstorm damaged his roof. He was shocked to find out his insurance would only pay $3,000 on a $20,000 roof replacement.
Why? Because he had a 2% deductible and a policy that only paid 60% of the roof's value due to its age. Nobody had ever explained those coverages to him just got the dollar amount his lender was looking for his mortgage. ($1400/year for those wondering)
This isn't to say insurance is a scam or not worth it. It's a reminder that cheap insurance can become very expensive when you have a claim.
My job isn't just to save you money (bonus if I can) it's to make sure you actually understand what you're buying so there are no surprises when you need it most.
Have you ever had your insurance explained to you, or were you just given a price? Let me know in the comments! 👇
