We were on vacation last week in New Mexico. One of our favorite stops on the drive home is The Gladstone Mercantile in Springer, TX - population of 5.

We always order their homemade breakfast sandwiches (they're so good!) and a fried pies for the road. I call in advance to ask them to set aside some fried pies for us.

It's a reminder that some of the best places aren't the biggest or busiest—they're the small businesses that work hard every day to serve their communities. Let's support them! Support local businesses and help keep our communities thriving.

And, on your next drive to New Mexico, go through Springer and stop at The Gladstone Mercantile. You won't be disappointed!

After a great week away with family, I'm back in the office feeling refreshed and grateful.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is step away from the schedules, emails, and to-do lists for a little while. Time spent with the those we love and surrounded by God's beautiful creation has a way of putting everything back into perspective.

Now it's time to get back to helping clients navigate Medicare, health insurance, and life insurance decisions. If you've been meaning to review your coverage or have questions, I'd love to help.

I hope you had a great week as well! Here's the beautiful mountain view enjoyed from our cabin porch.

Medicare Monday!

Today's topic: What is Medicare?

If you've ever felt confused by Medicare, you're not alone.

Simply put, Medicare is the federal health insurance program primarily for people age 65 and older. Some individuals under 65 may also qualify because of certain disabilities or medical conditions.

Medicare is made up of different parts:
✔️ Part A – Hospital coverage
✔️ Part B – Medical coverage, such as doctor visits and outpatient care
✔️ Part C – Medicare Advantage plans offered by private insurance companies
✔️ Part D – Prescription drug coverage

One of the biggest misconceptions is that Medicare covers everything. While it provides excellent coverage, there are still deductibles, copays, and services it doesn't pay for.

The good news is that you have options to help fill those gaps and choose coverage that fits your needs.

🏡 Moving? What happens to my Medicare coverage?

Great Question! If you're planning a move, whether it's across town or to another state, there are some important actions to take regarding your Medicare.

Here's why:
• If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, your plan's service area may change, and you may need to choose a new plan.
• If you have a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan with Original Medicare, you typically do not need to do anything except update your address with your Medicare Supplement carrier.
• If you have a Part D prescription drug plan you may need to update your plan depending upon where you move.

Moving can qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period, giving you the opportunity to make changes to your coverage without waiting until Annual Enrollment.

A quick review before your move can help prevent surprises after you arrive.

Did you know Medicare covers skin cancer a little differently than other preventive screenings?

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, and our risk increases as we get older. However, unlike screenings such as mammograms or colonoscopies, Medicare generally does not cover routine skin cancer screenings if you don't have any symptoms.

The good news is that if you notice something concerning—a new spot, a mole that's changing, or a sore that won't heal—Medicare will typically cover the visit to have it evaluated. If a biopsy or treatment is needed, those services are generally covered as well.

The best thing you can do is keep an eye on your skin. Check it regularly, know the ABCDE warning signs (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, and Evolving), and don't forget the sunscreen when you're outside this summer. ☀️

A few minutes of prevention today could make a big difference tomorrow.
