Where entrepreneurs like Jesse Diaz lead, healthier communities are sure to follow.

In 2021, Jesse opened Hegewisch Nutrition in Chicago’s Hegewisch neighborhood. In addition to providing healthy food options, Hegewisch Nutrition acts as a community space, hosting exercise classes, wellness events, and more.

In 2025, Jesse received an A4CB loan which allowed him to invest infrastructure and inventory. In 2026, Jesse participated in A4CB’s Neighborhood Entrepreneurship Lab. The program taught Jesse how to fine tune his operating procedures, which led him to create a training program for new employees.

As Hegewisch Nutrition grows, Jesse plans on offering more opportunities for residents to live healthier lives.

Whether you’re launching, growing, or strengthening your business, we can help you access the capital that you need. We offer loans between $500 and $500,000 to early, emerging, and established businesses in Illinois and Indiana.

Why choose A4CB?
• No minimum credit score - We pull your credit to see what you’ve borrowed—and what your payment history looks like—but we don’t use your credit score when we make our lending decisions.
• Start-up funding available - If your business has generated less than six months of business activity in your business bank account, you are still eligible to borrow up to $12,500.
• ITIN lending available - We offer a flexible credit policy and work with business owners who may not fit traditional lending guidelines, including ITIN holders.

Don't miss the 2026 Toast to Community Business! Celebrate community business with us by sampling delicious food from A4CB clients like Arepa George. Purchase your ticket at a4cb.org/toast-to-community-business.

An immigrant from Colombia, Juan Betancourt grew up making tamales with his family and wanted to share his love of this food with others. While working as a teacher at Chicago High School for the Arts, Juan dreamed about opening his own restaurant but was nervous to take the leap.

In 2017, after two years of extensive research, he opened the doors to ArePA George, a Colombian restaurant in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, which he named after his father, George.

In 2018, A4CB provided Juan with a loan to buy materials and supplies to keep up with his growing orders. Today, ArePA George has four locations, including their original location in Humboldt Park.
