Chicago’s Personal Property Lease Transaction Tax (PPLTT) increased from 11% to 15% on January 1, 2026, raising costs for leased equipment and SaaS tools like POS, payroll, and cloud software used in the City of Chicago.

While many large vendors include the PPLTT on their invoices, business owners may be expected to self-assess and remit the tax on a monthly or quarterly basis, if a vendor fails to charge it. Taxes like the PPLTT can strain cash flow, so business owners should proactively review invoices, confirm vendor compliance, and plan for the added cost.

This Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, we celebrate entrepreneurs like Stacy Seuamsothabandith and Byron Gully!

In 2022, Stacy, her husband Byron, and her brother, Chef Keo, opened Laos To Your House. Their goal - introduce Laotian cuisine to Chicago.

The business runs out of The Hatchery Chicago, and their Laotian cuisine is available through local and national home delivery as well as in Mariano’s across Chicagoland.

In addition to expanding into wholesale with their ready-made meals, they are also the exclusive Illinois distributor of a Lao Beer called BeerLao.

Stacy and Byron are working to secure their USDA grant of inspection. This certification would permit Laos to Your House to sell across state lines allowing Stacy to share her cuisine, and her culture, across the country.
