🚨 Good News for Texas First Responders 🚨

VFIS of Texas is pleased to announce an immediate 9% rate reduction for our Department Paid Cancer/Critical Illness Policy.

Departments currently enrolled in the program will begin seeing the reduced rates reflected on renewals starting this month.

This reduction applies specifically to the Department Paid Cancer/Critical Illness Plan and is separate from HB4144-related coverage.

Providing meaningful protection for firefighters and first responders remains a priority, and this rate reduction helps make this important coverage even more affordable for departments across Texas.

Firefighter safety isn’t a one-time lesson—it’s a lifelong commitment.

Texas is taking a significant step forward by requiring career firefighters to complete recurring firefighter safety training every five years. The new standard is designed to reinforce critical survivability principles, strengthen safety culture, and help ensure firefighters return home safely after every call. Approximately 40,000 regulated firefighters across Texas will be impacted by this new requirement.

Ongoing training is one of the most effective tools for reducing risk, preventing injuries, and protecting those who serve our communities every day. We applaud efforts that prioritize firefighter health, safety, and professional development throughout an entire career.
