• Your Initial Enrollment Period generally lasts seven months: the three months before you turn 65, your birthday month, and the three months after.

• Some people are automatically enrolled in Original Medicare, while others need to enroll themselves. This often depends on whether they are already receiving Social Security benefits.

• Delaying enrollment without other qualifying coverage may lead to gaps in coverage or late-enrollment penalties.
