Flag Day is here, and our team is proud to celebrate the history behind the Stars and Stripes. While we all recognize the United States flag, many people don’t know the story behind its evolution.
Here are a few fun facts we love sharing:
🔹 The current 50-star design was created by 17-year-old Robert G. Heft in 1958 as a school project. President Eisenhower selected it from more than 3,000 submissions.
🔹 There have been 27 official versions of the flag, with most updates tied to the admission of new states. Each version reflects a chapter in the nation’s growth.
🔹 Red, white, and blue were chosen with meaning: red for valor, white for purity, and blue for vigilance and justice.
🔹 Six American flags have been placed on the moon across multiple Apollo missions.
🔹 Today’s design is the longest-running version, unchanged since Hawaii became a state in 1959.
At Edison Mortgage & Associates, we’re grateful to live and work in a community that takes pride in our nation’s history. Wishing everyone a meaningful and memorable Flag Day.
