I recently had the pleasure of attending this year's revamped Toast to the City event in Lima and was reminded of just how special Lima is and how much momentum is building for its future. This community will always hold a special place in my heart. Seeing the continued investment, growth, and pride throughout the city is both exciting and inspiring.
One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was the beautiful tribute to Martie MacDonnell. The lasting impact Martie had on Lima and the countless contributions made to strengthen our community were evident throughout the tribute. It was a touching reminder of how much a dedicated individual can shape a city for generations.
Mayor Sharetta Smith's poetic toast to the city was another highlight, beautifully capturing the spirit, resilience, and promise of Lima. Her words reflected both the pride we have in the city's history and the optimism we share for its future.
Another person who deserves special recognition is John Heaphy. Anyone who knows John knows how deeply he cares about Lima. He has spent years championing big ideas for the community and, more importantly, helping turn those ideas into real projects and opportunities that benefit the city. Lima is better because of people like John who continue to invest in its future.
The evening was made even better by the outstanding food provided by local restaurants. It was a great reminder of the many talented small businesses that help make Lima such a vibrant community.
Events like Toast to the City remind me that Lima's greatest strength has always been its people. The passion, generosity, and commitment of community members, business leaders, volunteers, and public servants continue to move the city forward.
Thank you to everyone helping build an even brighter future for this wonderful community. I'm excited to see what comes next. 🥂
