I really enjoyed today’s Elevate event with The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce Bloomington Women in Leadership (BWIL). Jasynda Radanovich gave us quite a few aha moments, and I could see heads nodding throughout the room as we discussed the blessings and curses of technology in our daily lives.
A few key takeaways:
• We’re not actually multi-tasking — we’re task-switching, and it comes at a real cost to both our work and personal lives.
• Attention and focus should be treated as an organizational resource, not something we assume is unlimited.
• Setting clear expectations for communication matters just as much as the tools we use.
• Technology can (and should) bring clarity to how we collaborate, update, and share information.
• And sometimes, the most respectful thing we can do is not hold a meeting when an email would do.
I’m proud of the work our committee put into bringing this event to life, and grateful for the two years I’ve spent serving on the BWIL Steering Committee.
