Let's do a catch up on what all is happening! First, YES we have a place. The Monroe Co Fair board worked hard to make this work. We have a place to store toys until Dec 11 when we will take over the 4H building for the week. You can drop off extra toys and donations at Pantry until the 11th and then at the 4H building all that week thru Dec 15.
Sign ups for children needing gifts closed in less than 24 hours, with final totals being 609 families, 1601 kids ( I recounted ). Currently we have 263 Santas, all matched, with a couple taking more than 1 family. I do NOT like to break apart families but I can if it means more kids getting taken care of. WE NEED SANTAS TO SPONSOR CHILDREN BADLY!! It's a rough year with high costs and harsh economy, Im very aware, BUT I also BELIEVE in Christmas miracles and Magic, and I am full of HOPE, as are these 606 families. We have families with 1-5 kids in them ( many 3 and 4 kid ones ). Please consider working with a group, or friends or your work place and adopting a couple of families. Sign up here https://pantry279.org/elf-dispatch/elf-dispatch-santa-signup
We have an ENORMOUS amount of children who didn't make the list. Part of this is because 2 of the long time gifting programs shut down this year due to lack of donors. Merry Mart and Christmas for the Kids are NOT operating this year. If you can donate new toys, blankets, TEEN ITEMS, or winter wear, please do. NOTHING will go unclaimed. If we have anything left over, we take it to the children at the Rise, women and children's shelter.
Too busy to shop? No worries! Our elves will shop for you, and live stream it so you can see. Just donate what ou would like to see spent on gifts for children! You can bring cash or checks to use at the Pantry 279 this week or at the 4H building next week thru Dec 15. Or we have venmo ( @ pantry279 ), Paypal ( [email protected] ) or donate button on www.pantry279.org
Now the Head Elves schedule for this week!! The Head elf and any other elf wishing to help type or call Santas and parents will be at the Pantry 279 Mon. 11-7, Tues 11-7, Wed 11-7, Thurs 11-7, Fri 11-7 and Sat 12-6. If you need to come later than that, just call, I will wait.
As always, I thank everyone so much for all of the help on this massive project. It really is worth it! PLEASE SHARE

Useful information for my local folks!!

I was so excited about going back to a choice, shopping pantry. Being able to choose the items you want stops wasted food ( which is hard to get ) and allows for dignity and fairness. Does this mean there is a wait, YES, it does! Everyone deserves the right to take their time and look at what they have to choose from, and if there are allergies, be able to read the label. Some people have difficulty walking, or even moving fast. When it is your turn, you too should have this right. YES, we have limits! There has to be, not because we want them, but because we want everyone to be able to get food. I wish we had a never ending supply of food that would never ever run out, but that is not the case. We DO have unlimited items, and they are up front where you can get them before shopping and take them to your car, making everyone's wait shorter. If you think about it, the wait is not much different than when you waited in a hot/cold car in the line at the church. It's just you were in a car and slowly inching forward. Now its inside in climate control and you can have a drink and a snack, look at the fish tank, read, talk, play on your phone.... IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE AROUND PEOPLE OR WAIT, PARK AND CALL AND ASK FOR A PREPACKED BOX TO BE BROUGHT OUT TO YOUR CAR!! This can be done!
BUT be NICE to people in the pantry! Especially our staff and volunteers. This calling us names, cussing, complaining and saying we are stupid or much worse will end NOW. We work, mostly for free, from 9:30am - 7 or later at night, both on days we are open and days we are not cleaning and making sure things are nice and safe for you. From now on, anyone being mean to volunteers or staff will be asked to take a prepacked box and leave and we can try this again next week. If it continues, you will be invited to go elsewhere. We love our community and want EVERYONE to have good, healthy food and a CHOICE, but violence and rude meanness will not be tolerated. I am sorry I must post about this again, and signs will be posted for those not having social media, but this seems the quickest way to get to the most people, please SHARE
