The lowest premium isn't always the best deal. It's just the easiest number to compare.

Two policies priced identically can cover completely different things: different limits, different exclusions, different responses when a claim actually happens.

Coverage should be something a practice can see clearly, not something that gets explained after a claim reveals what wasn't included.

That's the idea behind Clickable Coverage®: making it simple to see exactly what's protected, not just what it costs.

Most benefits broker relationships run on a once-a-year rhythm: renewal packet, sign, repeat.

At Unity, we work differently. We check in on classification changes and staffing shifts throughout the year, not just at renewal. We explain plan changes in plain language, not spreadsheets. And we’ve flagged coding and coverage issues clients never thought to raise themselves.

For growing practices, especially multi-provider groups and ambulatory surgical centers, that kind of attention matters even more. More moving parts means more places for something to slip.

This is the standard we hold every client relationship to: staying close to the details and treating coverage as an ongoing responsibility, not a once-a-year event.

Renewing a plan is easy. Knowing what to change before renewal is the harder, more valuable work.

A good benefits partner shows up with options once a year. An engaged one is paying attention well before that: watching where costs are heading, flagging plan design that no longer fits, raising questions before they become problems at the negotiating table.

That kind of attention doesn't show up on an invoice. It shows up in the years a renewal doesn't come with a surprise attached.

It's the difference between a broker and a partner.

A generous benefits plan does little for an employee who doesn't understand what it actually offers.

Open enrollment moves fast, and most employees make decisions based on what they remember from a single meeting months, or years, earlier.

The result: coverage that goes unused, options that go unconsidered, and a plan that looks better on paper than it feels in practice.

The value of a benefits plan isn't just in the plan design. It's in whether people understand it well enough to use it.

Most practice owners assume their Business Owner’s Policy protects them against claims tied to the work they do every day.

It doesn’t, not entirely.

Standard BOPs carry a professional liability exclusion that removes any claim arising from providing, or failing to provide, professional services. Misdiagnosis, treatment errors, and clinical judgment calls all fall outside it, no matter how administrative the trigger looks on the surface.

The real exposure shows up as practices grow: new service lines, staff taking on clinical-adjacent tasks, coverage written years ago for a smaller operation.

We review BOP and malpractice coverage together, not as two boxes already checked, so gaps get caught before a claim does.

Happy Birthday to Shelly Brouse, Unity's CEO and the steady hand behind everything we do for our clients.

Shelly's approach to this business, relational, consultative, always a step ahead, sets the standard for how our whole team shows up for practices across Maryland.

Wishing you a wonderful day, Shelly. Thank you for leading the way.

Anyone can sell a policy. Fewer people can tell you why it's the right one.

A policy sold is a transaction. A policy chosen, with a practice's risk, growth, and blind spots actually considered, is advice.

The difference shows up long after the sale: in what gets caught before a claim, and what gets missed because nobody was really looking.

At Unity, we've always seen the difference as the whole job.

Cyber insurance is often filed under “data breach,” as if that's the only exposure it covers.

It isn't.

A ransomware attack that locks scheduling systems for three days is a cyber claim. A phishing email that redirects a wire transfer is a cyber claim. Downtime that keeps a practice from seeing patients is a cyber claim, with real revenue attached.

The risk isn't limited to stolen records. It's the business itself, interrupted.

Cyber coverage built around how a practice actually operates protects more than data. It protects the ability to keep running.

Most physicians assume that if they're ever unable to work, their group disability coverage will replace their income.

It won't, not entirely.

Group plans are typically built to replace a portion of income, not all of it, and coverage is usually capped well below what specialists earn.

That gap is often the difference between adjusting a budget and restructuring a life.

Individual disability coverage exists to close that gap, protecting the income a group plan was never designed to fully replace.

Every policy has a ceiling. The question is what happens once a claim reaches it.

General liability and auto coverage protect a practice up to a set limit. A single serious claim can reach that ceiling faster than most owners expect.

A commercial umbrella policy picks up where those limits stop, extending protection so one large claim doesn't put years of practice growth at risk.

It's not about expecting the worst. It's about making sure a single bad day doesn't undo everything else.
