🌼💀 A weekend of culture, tradition and community in the heart of Oakland!

Self-Help was proud to sponsor and participate in the 31st Annual Oakland Día de los Mu***os Festival in Fruitvale, joining thousands of community members, local businesses, artists and cultural organizations in celebrating the traditions, stories and generations that make Oakland such a vibrant place.

From honoring our roots and remembering loved ones to celebrating the strength and resilience of our communities, the festival was a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving culture, creating spaces of belonging and bringing people together.

At Self-Help, we believe strong communities are built when everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We're proud to stand alongside the organizations and community partners working to make Oakland a place where culture, connection and opportunity continue to flourish.

We honor Dolores Huerta’s legacy and the lasting connection she built with Self-Help.

Dolores was instrumental in starting the Farm Workers Credit Union in 1963, the first credit union in the country organized specifically for farmworkers. Through subsequent mergers, the credit union joined Self-Help.

Dolores also served on the Self-Help/Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) California Advisory Board, partnered with Self-Help to advance the Dolores Huerta Peace and Justice Cultural Center, and joined CRL in the fight against predatory lending.

Her lifelong commitment to working families reflects the work we continue today: expanding economic opportunity, protecting families’ financial security, and building an economy where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
We are honored to have worked alongside her.

Our condolences are with her family, loved ones, and all those carrying forward her legacy.

According to the United Nations, there are more than 476 million Indigenous peoples living in 90 countries all over the world. In fact, Indigenous people comprise 6.2% of the world’s population.

For many, Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a time for reflection and remembrance. A great way to commemorate Indigenous Peoples' Day is to educate yourself and others on Indigenous and Native American culture, contributions, and history. You can also contribute to charities and causes that support indigenous people. Parade Magazine offers several good options, including:

- American Indian College Fund, which provides scholarships for Native American students.

- American Indian Policy Center, which provides government leaders and policymakers with accurate legal and historical information.

- American Indigenous Business Leaders support the education and development of indigenous-owned businesses.

- The Association of American Indian Affairs provides aid in drafting integral legislation for indigenous people, including the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and the Tribal Governmental Tax Status Act and the Indian Child Welfare Act.

- First Nations Development Institute supports economic development and education for Native communities.

- Native American Heritage Association provides financial aid to those in need living on reservations in South Dakota.

- Native American Rights Fund fights to preserve Native American rights and tribal resources.

Starting October 1, Self-Help Federal Credit Union credit cards will begin offering contactless tap-to-pay.

With a dual-interface card, you can:
• Tap to pay at participating merchants
• Insert your card when needed
• Enjoy a fast, convenient and secure way to pay

New contactless cards will be issued when your current Self-Help card is reissued due to expiration.

One important note: Self-Help ATMs are not yet enabled for contactless transactions. Until then, continue inserting your card when using our ATMs.
