We can't control the weather.
But we can take steps now to reduce the possibility of damage and make sure we understand our insurance protection before we need it.
Don't wait until the storm is approaching to find out what your insurance covers.
One of the biggest misunderstandings involves flooding.
-A standard homeowners insurance policy generally does not cover damage caused by rising surface water or flooding. Separate flood insurance may be needed.
-Mudslides and earth movement can also present complicated coverage issues and may be excluded under standard homeowners policies.
-Your auto policy is different. If you carry comprehensive coverage, it may provide protection for certain weather-related losses such as flooding, falling trees, or other storm damage, subject to your policy terms and deductible.
This is also a good time to review your:
1. Home replacement cost
2. Deductibles
3. Auto comprehensive coverage
4. Flood exposure
5. Umbrella liability coverage
6. Emergency contact information
If you'd like us to review your home, auto, flood, or umbrella coverage before the rainy season, give us a call.
We're always happy to help.
