Good time at the Roosevelt County Fair in Portales — spent the evening introducing myself to folks and talking about the Treasurer's office. Thanks to Larry Marker, our nominee for U.S. Senate, for hauling my sign across the fairgrounds.

What a great day at the Lea County Fair parade in Lovington!

That's me on the right, in the dark blue shirt and cowboy hat, walking the route with Gregg Hull and greeting the wonderful folks of Lea County. There's nothing like a parade — families lining the street, kids waving, neighbors catching up.

I'm traveling to every corner of New Mexico to listen and earn your vote. On to the next stop!

The people I met in Artesia and Carlsbad on Friday know their region powers New Mexico's economy — and they asked sharp questions about what happens to public money after it's collected.

The State Treasurer directly invests the state's operating funds — about $20 billion, including the pool where many local governments place their own money — and holds a fiduciary seat on the board overseeing our permanent funds.

Each of these roles deserves the same two things: competent stewardship, and performance reported publicly — in plain English, with benchmarks, in a timely manner.

That's what I'm running to deliver.

Thank you, Roy, NM! Yesterday's meet and greet in Harding County was one of the highlights of this campaign so far.

Harding is New Mexico's smallest county by population — under 1,000 people — but the hall was full, with folks driving in from neighboring counties to be there. The questions were sharp, the hospitality was second to none, and I left more energized than when I arrived.

As State Treasurer, I'll work for every community in New Mexico, no matter how far off the beaten path. Grateful to the organizers and everyone who came out. 🇺🇸

New Mexico is holding roughly $390 million in unclaimed property that belongs to New Mexicans — property such as abandoned accounts, abandoned safe deposit boxes, and checks written to people who have since died.

Last year, Taxation and Revenue returned less than 5% of it.

That's not good enough. I'll work to move the unclaimed property program to the State Treasurer's Office and make returning that money a priority.

That's one of three points I make in today's Albuquerque Journal. The others: the Treasurer's Office invests about $20 billion of public money with no plain-English report showing the public how it has performed, and its fiscal year 2025 annual report wasn't posted until June 2026 — nearly a year after that fiscal year closed.

New Mexicans deserve to know how their money is managed, and to get back what's already theirs.

Read it here, and please share.

It's official — I'm the Republican nominee for New Mexico State Treasurer! 🇺🇸

I received my Certificate of Nomination from the Secretary of State yesterday.

Thank you to everyone who's backed this campaign so far. Your write-in votes and your spreading the word to others made all the difference.

Being declared the official Republican nominee is a big step, but it's really just the starting line. I'm running to bring real transparency to how New Mexico invests taxpayer dollars — and a fresh perspective to an office that needs one.

There's a lot of work ahead, and I'd be glad to have you with me. More soon.

Happy 250th, USA! 🇺🇸

What a morning at the Los Lunas 4th of July parade! So good to see that many people out celebrating 250 years — the turnout was fantastic!

And here's my new NM license plate-style yard sign. What's the verdict — do you like it, or do you think a more traditional yard sign would be better?

I'm James Ellison, and I'm running for State Treasurer because New Mexicans deserve real transparency in how their tax dollars are being invested. This office shouldn't be about party — it's about whether your money is managed well.

The Treasurer directly manages a $20 billion fund to meet state government obligations, and serves on 13 boards and councils with oversight of another $160 billion. This is a job for a professional — not a politician.

I hold the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation — the gold standard in investing credentials — and I'm a former commissioner with the NMPRC (Public Regulation Commission). I'd be honored to earn your vote.
