Today, we're recognizing one of our donors, Todd Cartwright, for his continued commitment to Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico. In August 1994, Todd crashed his motorcycle and hit a steel pole in Farmington, New Mexico. He was just 17 years old. “When I woke up at UNMH after the life flight, I thought it had been one day, but it had been three weeks. The first thing I smelled was my mother’s perfume, and it was comforting because I hadn’t smelled it in a long time.” While Todd recovered from the accident, his mom stayed at the Ronald McDonald House. “I saw such a change in her once she was able to get a room at the House. Just being able to shower and sleep in a bed made a huge difference, but the biggest thing the House did for us, was to give my mom a connection to people and resources she could lean on. They helped her understand how to maneuver the system and how to continue my care after I turned 18 later that year.” Todd and his company Guild Mortgage have been supporting the House since 2016. This year, he even dedicated his Facebook birthday fundraiser to the House, beating his goal by more than $500. “After the accident, they were talking about making me a triple amputee. Being a 17-year-old kid, having my mom there made a huge difference for me, and having the House help her learn how to advocate for my well-being, it was just such a game-changer. That’s why I work to be a champion for the community and always try to support Ronald McDonald House when I can.”
