I saw too many people in their lifetimes trying to chase money and failing to catch it. The lesson I learned over and over again is that money is not something that you chase. It is something that you create by bringing value to other people. Teaching your children that is a lesson that will change their lives forever.

Money does not come to those who are desperate for it. It comes to those who bring value to other people. Stop chasing and start creating something worth paying for.

11pm. I received a direct message from a client

"I make $120K. A $3K repair almost broke me. Am I broke?"

Here is the part that no one tells you.

A $3k bill is not an emergency. It's just life.

A new tyre. A medical bill. A laptop that dies before a deadline. These are certainties, not surprises. It's bound to happen to every one of us.

The thing is, most people are building their finances with zero buffer between your income and real life. Every cent has a purpose in your head. Rent. Food. Transport. Subscriptions. Lifestyle.

And that leaves nothing for when life happens. That's why economists call us liquid poor. We have a high income but little financial resilience.

That's when you need to build what's called in finance a cash buffer. 3-6 months of expenses in a cash that is liquid and boring. Not invested. Not in your CPF. Just sitting there for the one time in a decade that you need it. In Singapore that works out to be around $12K to $20K.

I’ll tell you an additional secret. It’s actually the people who can’t afford a Ferrari that wants a Ferrari. Many people who can afford a Ferrari eventually sold it away because it’s just not practical, for many reasons.
Too low, too noisy, too flashy, not enough seats, not enough boot space, not practical, giving too many problems, and so on.
