Every year Revenue likes to keep us on our toes with updates to the Tax Return form!

Some of the big things to watch out for when filing your 2025 return include:

➡️ More prefilled information to check
➡️ PRSA Employer Contributions where employer contributions exceed the allowable limit
➡️ Capital Gains Tax (CGT) Section changes

It’s important check all updated sections on the form carefully so nothing slips through the cracks 📝

Money you could be claiming back 💶

🏠 Work from home? Claim a portion of your household utility bills.
🚗 Out and about? Claim subsistence rates for business mileage and daily meals.
📈 Business sitting on excess cash? Consider maximising your company pension contributions. It's a highly tax-efficient way to plan for the future.

USC comes out of nearly every payslip in the country, and hardly anyone can tell you how it is actually worked out. Here it is for 2026.

It is layered, not one flat rate:

- 0.5% on the first €12,012
- 2% up to €28,700, then 3% up to €70,044
- 8% on anything above €70,044, with each rate only applying to the income in that band

Once you see the layers, your payslip makes a lot more sense.

If you pay rent for your home, you may be owed up to €1,000 back, and a lot of people have not claimed it.

The Rent Tax Credit:

- Up to €1,000 for a single person, up to €2,000 for a jointly assessed couple
- Confirmed for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 tax years
- Many people have not claimed the earlier years they were entitled to

It is worth checking the years you have already missed.
