Quick introduction to today’s electrical job in Bristol ⚡

We’re replacing the client’s old outdoor lamp with a new LED motion sensor light, as well as sorting out a cooker switch that’s completely stuck and won’t turn off properly.

Small jobs like these might seem simple, but faulty switches and outdated lighting can quickly become safety and reliability issues if left too long.

Why upgrade to LED motion sensor lights?
They’re more energy efficient, improve security, and require far less maintenance compared to older fittings.

Why should a stuck cooker switch be replaced immediately?
Because isolation is a key safety feature — if you can’t switch it off properly, it’s no longer safe to rely on.

If you’re in Bristol or surrounding areas and need electrical repairs or upgrades, contact Live Line Electrical.

Quick introduction to today’s job in Alveston ⚡

We’re installing new double sockets, switches, and V-TAC LED waterproof lights on the beams to brighten up the space properly. Tom has already started work in the bathroom while I’ll be focusing on the garage installation.

Why use waterproof LED lights in garages and utility spaces?
They’re durable, energy efficient, and ideal for areas exposed to moisture, dust, and temperature changes.

Why plan installations room by room?

What should you look for in a fuseboard?
Clear labelling, proper protection devices, neat wiring, and safe access for testing and isolation.

STOP ! Don't Use Plastic Bags for Electrcial Connection for your Mill Pond!

While restoring the mill pond, I opened up the old setup and found that someone had used a bag to cover the electrics. At first glance, it might seem like a decent waterproofing idea—but it actually trapped moisture, leading to rusted and unsafe connections

Why is moisture in electrics dangerous?
Water and electricity don’t mix—trapped moisture can cause corrosion, tripping, and even electrical fires. Outdoor electricals need proper protection, not quick fixes.

What’s the right way to protect garden electrics?
Always use weatherproof boxes, glands, and sealants rated for outdoor use. It keeps your system safe, efficient, and long-lasting.

Follow Live Line Electrical for smarter and safer electrical solutions.

Follow-up from the unsafe electrical job we attended ⚠️

In the first reel, I showed the suspicious live cable running underground toward the back of the garden — even with everything supposedly switched off at the board. Here’s a more detailed explanation of why this immediately raised serious concerns.

The setup didn’t look like a normal installation at all. The cable routing, lack of proper isolation, and the way power was still present strongly suggested an unsafe and potentially unauthorised connection. This is exactly why I stopped the job and contacted the appropriate people.

Why is a permanently live hidden cable dangerous?
Because anyone working nearby could assume the system is isolated when it isn’t — creating a major shock and fire risk.

What should you do if something electrical looks suspicious?
Do not touch it, do not attempt DIY fixes, and get qualified professionals involved immediately.

Situations like this are rare, but they show why proper inspections and testing matter so much.

If you’re in Bristol or surrounding areas and something about your electrics doesn’t feel right, contact Live Line Electrical.

Back with a repeat client in Alveston for more electrical work

Last time, we couldn’t complete the garage because the area was covered with asbestos boards, so safety had to come first. Now that everything’s sorted, we’re back to install new sockets and switches properly and safely.

Why should asbestos stop electrical work?
Because disturbing asbestos materials without proper handling can be extremely dangerous and should only be dealt with by qualified specialists.

Why plan socket and switch installations properly?
Good positioning, safe cable routes, and future usability make a huge difference in both safety and convenience.

If you’re in Bristol, Alveston, or surrounding areas and need professional electrical installations done safely and properly, contact Live Line Electrical.
