Lovely news to share - we've been shortlisted for two NACFB Awards this year:

🏅 Development Finance Broker of the Year; &
🏅 Short-term Finance Broker of the Year.

With well over 430 entries this year from across the NACFB's membership of over 1,400 - it's a real honour to be shortlisted in either category, let alone both.

Both cases involved plenty of twists along the way - one a multi-building development project, the other a race against the clock after we were brought in just two days before an auction exchange deadline. Thanks to everyone involved, especially our clients, for trusting us to get these deals done.

A new lease of life for a local cafe, and a community space at the heart of it.

Jo Howard recently completed on a semi-commercial property in Torquay, bringing 15+ years of hospitality experience to relaunch the café as 'Blume' - a plant-filled, community-focused coffee shop with locally sourced Sanctuary coffee and a quality all-day menu. The space may also be available for private hire, from community events to children’s parties.

This case highlighted exactly the kind of complex, multi-income commercial lending we specialise in - securing funding against diverse revenue streams and working through valuation, legal, and lender negotiations over several months to get Jo across the line.

🏨 Philip Meek Mortgages clients acquire The Bear Hotel, Wareham.

After many months of work, we're delighted to share the successful completion of the purchase of The Bear Hotel in the heart of Wareham.

This beautifully restored Grade II Listed hotel is one of Wareham's most recognisable landmarks. Originally rebuilt in 1852 following the Great Fire of Wareham, it has a fascinating history. Perhaps most famous is its life-size stone bear overlooking the High Street, with local legend claiming that if the bear were ever to fall from its perch, the end of the world would be near!

Like many commercial transactions, this wasn't without its challenges. But by working closely with everyone involved, we kept the momentum going and ultimately achieved a successful completion.

A huge congratulations to the new owners. With their extensive hospitality experience, I'm excited to see the next chapter for The Bear and wish them every success.

⛵ Another fantastic year at the Torbay Invitational, hosted by Philip Meek Mortgages and Wollens

Now that everyone has found their land legs again, we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the 2026 event our biggest yet 😁

This year brought together:
👉 19 teams
👉 83+ businesses
👉 230 attendees
for a fantastic day of sailing, networking and fundraising on the English Riviera 🌴

Whether you joined us as a competitor, sponsor, skipper or guest, your support helped create an incredible atmosphere both on and off the water. It was fantastic to see so many businesses making new connections, strengthening existing relationships and enjoying some healthy competition along the way.

A special thank you to our headline sponsor, PKF-Francis Clark, alongside Pantaenius, Royal Torbay Yacht Club, our skippers, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make the day possible. As well as Spinlock, for their support in keeping competitors safe.

We’re also incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the Disabled Sailing Association through raffle ticket purchases and donations.

The Torbay Invitational is now the largest annual yacht race in Torbay, and we’re already looking forward to making 2027 even bigger and better.

What a day it’s been! A sailors perfect forecast, some fantastic racing, networking and BBQ at Royal Torbay Yacht Club, live music and a great prize giving 🏆

It was great to see competitors representing over 70 South Devon businesses. Thanks for coming!
