Small Business Owners.
Prospective Client: I only see the Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss statement when my Accountant gives them to me to sign year end accounts for filing to HMRC and Companies House. I don’t even understand what I’m signing but it’s the law isn’t it?
Me (business goal focused Accountant): Forgive me if this comes across as an insult, but that NONSENSE. If you’re really serious about running a business, those financial statements should be very important to you. Do you have no interest at all in the financial performance of your business? Don’t you have a goal you want to achieve?
Filing them is simply giving Govt information you already have for tax and regulatory purposes so other stakeholders dealing with your business can have information they need to decide if they’ll do business with your company or not.
Ideally you need to see your the Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss at least every quarter if not every month. You may also find a Cashflow forecast report very useful.
At Haupa Associates, in addition to preparing and filing year end accounts and tax returns, we also prepare management accounting reports to assist your business decision making towards achieving your business goal.
