Geopolitical risk continues to create real challenges for shipowners, operators and the wider maritime industry.
That was the focus of a recent interactive session in Mumbai, hosted by The Company of Master Mariners of India and the World Maritime University India Alumni Association.
We were pleased to support the event, Geopolitics at Sea: The Interplay Between P&I and War, which brought together around 150 maritime professionals, both in person and online.
The session was attended by Chief Guest Capt. S. I. Abul Kalam Azad, Nautical Advisor to Government of India at DG of Shipping.
Our speakers, Jonny Clapham, Underwriter - Middle East, India & Africa, Scott Oakes, P&I Claims Director - Middle East, India & Africa, and Savraj Mehta, Chief Commercial Officer, shared practical insight on the risks affecting shipping today, including sanctions, P&I risks, war risks and the role of insurance cover.
The session was concluded by a panel discussion with Scott Oakes, Jonny Clapham, Capt Mohan Naik (Director at Dynacom Tankers), Capt L.K. Panda (former Nautical Advisor to Government of India at DG of Shipping), and moderated by Savraj Mehta.
Attendees gave positive feedback on the relevance of the topic, the quality of the discussion and the value of the Q&A session.
Thank you to the Master of CMMI, Capt M.P. Bhasin, all other committee members from The Company of Master Mariners of India and the World Maritime University India Alumni Association for hosting the event, and to everyone who joined the discussion.
