Pride is a global movement that celebrates diversity, equality, and the ongoing work towards creating an inclusive environment where everyone can feel supported and respected at work.

During Pride month our teams have been busy decorating our offices, taking part in local Pride themed tours, fun runs, and raising money for charities including Sailors' Society and Pride Action North.

We were pleased to host our first industry seminar in Houston, Texas, on 14 May, bringing together Members, brokers and partners from across the region.

Organised by our Americas and UK, and Offshore & Renewables teams, the event took place at The Houstonian Hotel and focussed on current industry topics. Discussions covered digital innovation, safety considerations, regulatory developments and claims-related challenges.

The afternoon closed with ‘The Verdict Vortex’, a panel discussion focussed on litigating bodily injury claims in the USA, with insights drawn from practical, real-world experience.

We ended the event with a cocktail reception and networking. Thank you to our guest speakers, participants and everyone who joined us.

During the week, our teams also visited several Members and brokers in Houston. Our Americas and UK team were pleased to visit one of our Member’s towboats and valued the opportunity to see their operations first-hand.

Charting the Course with the Next Generation at "Classroom at Sea" 🚢

We are proud to support the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) in their upcoming Classroom at Sea event—a truly unique platform that brings maritime education directly to the water.

Representing NorthStandard, our P&I Claims Director and South-East Asia Lead, Kenny Choo, will be joining a group of aspiring students to introduce the world of marine insurance. Kenny will be leading an in-depth session covering the essentials of P&I Clubs and the complexities of War Risks, providing the students with a front-row seat to the critical mechanisms that keep global trade moving safely.

At NorthStandard, we believe that the future of our industry depends on nurturing "young blood." Kenny is a passionate advocate for mentorship, and events like these allow us to help mould the next generation of talent, preparing them to tackle the evolving challenges of the maritime sector.

Thank you to the SMF for the invitation to be part of this inspiring journey!

Geopolitical risk continues to create real challenges for shipowners, operators and the wider maritime industry.

That was the focus of a recent interactive session in Mumbai, hosted by The Company of Master Mariners of India and the World Maritime University India Alumni Association.

We were pleased to support the event, Geopolitics at Sea: The Interplay Between P&I and War, which brought together around 150 maritime professionals, both in person and online.

The session was attended by Chief Guest Capt. S. I. Abul Kalam Azad, Nautical Advisor to Government of India at DG of Shipping.

Our speakers, Jonny Clapham, Underwriter - Middle East, India & Africa, Scott Oakes, P&I Claims Director - Middle East, India & Africa, and Savraj Mehta, Chief Commercial Officer, shared practical insight on the risks affecting shipping today, including sanctions, P&I risks, war risks and the role of insurance cover.

The session was concluded by a panel discussion with Scott Oakes, Jonny Clapham, Capt Mohan Naik (Director at Dynacom Tankers), Capt L.K. Panda (former Nautical Advisor to Government of India at DG of Shipping), and moderated by Savraj Mehta.

Attendees gave positive feedback on the relevance of the topic, the quality of the discussion and the value of the Q&A session.

Thank you to the Master of CMMI, Capt M.P. Bhasin, all other committee members from The Company of Master Mariners of India and the World Maritime University India Alumni Association for hosting the event, and to everyone who joined the discussion.
