With clients looking at property investments as diversity in their portfolios where will their goals change with the recent budget increased property income tax?

To our landlord clients this new increase could be the turning point between keeping and selling properties. But selling them is another win for the government with potential capital gains taxes for those who own property investments their personal name and corporation tax for those in limited companies.

Is the alternative to put rents up as a 2% increase to rents would be within reasonable increase allowances. We’re being told by our clients they don’t want to do that as they’re already seeing their tenants struggle. But where is the cost going to come from?

This is a big milestone, and whatever your results, you should be proud of the hard work you’ve put in. For many, today will be about planning the next phase—whether that’s A-levels, college, apprenticeships, or something completely different.

Great news this week for mortgage borrowers. Bank of England reduced base rate.

We’ve had a few phone calls already about how it will affect both current mortgages and those in applications. Lenders will be in the process of changing their variable rates linked to the BOE but it doesn’t always mean fixed rates will drop as some lenders have already factored the hope of this drop into their rates.

Also some deals are not related to the BOE. They are in fact linked to GILTS especially the equity release markets. This has meant for some rates have gone up.

HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO LIVE ON IN RETIREMENT?

Interesting article in the MoneyWeek magazine this week.
The article looks at what costs have risen and fallen such as energy costs. It discusses the costs of being single in retirement ,because not everyone expects to be in a romantic relationship in retirement and it gives some examples of basic standard of living minimum costs and luxury costs.

Luxury to include a two week holiday. This doesn’t seem much when a lot of our clients tell us they want to travel more as one of their main goals in retirement.

Worth a read even if it’s just to provoke your thoughts on what retirement might look like for you and hopefully nudge more people to sit down and review their goals and expectations. Rather than leave it and hope for the best.
