📢 Are you a business owner in the Selby and Goole area?

Why not join us on Tuesday morning at The Peppered Pig Inn for our next Growth Community Selby meeting?

The Growth Community is all about building relationships, supporting one another and helping local businesses grow. Whether you're an established business owner, just starting out, or simply looking to make some new connections, we'd love to welcome you along.

This week's showcase speaker is Shona Mcneill - Travel Counsellor, who helps people create personalised holidays and travel experiences. Having spent the last decade living and working in different countries, she brings a wealth of first-hand travel knowledge and experience that goes far beyond the guidebooks.

I can personally recommend Shona too, as she was our holiday rep when we travelled and she was amazing. Her knowledge, attention to detail and genuine passion for helping people really stood out, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about her business and the difference she makes for her clients. ✈️🌍

We'll also hear from Scarlett at Had-copy, who will be sharing a useful learning point and explaining how businesses could reduce their printing and copying costs.

📍 The Peppered Pig Inn, East Cowick
🕙 Tuesday 10:00am – 11:30am

Visitors are always welcome, so if you'd like to come along and see what we're all about, feel free to drop me a message for more information.

Yesterday, I was up bright and early and headed into Hull with Scarlett McMullen for the Humber Business Week Business Breakfast at the Guildhall.

It was a really interesting morning, with a variety of topics being discussed. One that particularly stood out to me was hearing Jack Latus talk about the Resilience Hub.

The topic resonated with me not only because of the work I do helping individuals, families and business owners protect themselves financially, but also because of our own family's experience.

When my husband had a stroke at just 41, one of his biggest goals was to get back to work. Whilst he received some rehabilitation support, much of his recovery involved us finding additional help ourselves, including private physiotherapy and ongoing rehabilitation. Even now, two years later, recovery continues.
That's why it was so encouraging to hear about the support available through the Resilience Hub and the difference it can make to people facing life-changing circumstances.

I'm hoping to attend their launch event on 15th June to learn more about the services they offer and how they are supporting our local community.

Thank you for joining me, Scarlett. It was lovely to spend the morning together, and I'm looking forward to catching up again on Monday at the Growth Community coffee morning.

Have you attended any Hull Business Week events this week? I'd love to hear what you've found most valuable.

💙 A busy but enjoyable day yesterday at the Growth Community Beverley!

We held our first visitor meeting at our new venue, the King's Head in Beverley, and it was great to see so many people in the room, including some new faces and visitors from other Growth Community groups.

I had the pleasure of delivering the showcase presentation, alongside a really useful learning point from Debbie Jude. One of the things I love about our meetings is that there is always something new to learn, as well as opportunities to build valuable connections.

I stayed behind after the meeting chatting to visitors and have several 1-2-1 meetings to arrange over the coming weeks, which I'm really looking forward to.

If you're a business owner or employee looking to grow your network, build relationships and become part of a supportive business community, we'd love to welcome you along.

📅 Our next visitor meeting is on Tuesday 16th June
⏰ 10:00am – 11:30am
📍 The King's Head, Beverley
🎂 There will even be birthday cake as we celebrate Nicky Thomas' birthday!

After the meeting it was back to the office for some client work and admin before the school run. The day finished with Quinlan's swimming lesson, which gave me the chance to fit in a 30-minute swim too – a great way to unwind after a busy day.

Who else finds exercise helps them switch off after work? 🏊‍♀️

It's been a busy few weeks behind the scenes at Just Now Financial Services 💙

I was a little quieter recently after taking a few days off to celebrate a milestone birthday with family and friends. It was lovely to spend time with people from different parts of my life, including some friends and former colleagues from my cruise ship days who I hadn't seen for many years.

Since then, it's been straight back to helping clients protect what matters most.

Over the past couple of weeks I've:
✔️ Submitted applications for a couple I've been supporting through the underwriting process
✔️ Helped a client secure life insurance after previously struggling to obtain cover due to health and family history, with their policies now written into trust
✔️ Reviewed protection arrangements for a couple who already had life cover in place but wanted to explore how they would manage financially if illness or injury stopped them from working
✔️ Reviewed Executive Income Protection for a locum vet whose working arrangements have changed, ensuring their cover continues to meet their needs
✔️ Continued supporting clients with ongoing underwriting and policy reviews

One thing I see regularly is that life changes. Jobs change. Businesses evolve. Family circumstances change.

A protection policy that was right a few years ago may no longer be the most suitable option today, which is why regular reviews are so important.

If it's been a while since you reviewed your Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover, Income Protection or Business Protection, now could be a good time to check that your cover still does what you need it to.

📩 Feel free to get in touch if you'd like a no-obligation review.

Two years ago tonight, our lives changed forever.

My Husband, Warren was just 41 when he suffered a stroke.

Fit, healthy, non-smoker, non-drinker… not what many people picture when they think of someone having a stroke.

What followed was 2 weeks in hospital, 3½ weeks in rehab and a long ongoing recovery journey that continues even now.

There have been many challenges behind the scenes that people don’t always see — physically, emotionally and mentally — not just for Warren, but for all of us as a family too.

We chose to access private treatments including physio, specialist appointments and acupuncture to support his recovery and wellbeing, as we wanted to do everything we possibly could to help him.

It’s made me even more passionate about the importance of protecting both your health and your finances where possible, because life can change so unexpectedly.

Most importantly though, I just want to say how incredibly proud we are of Warren ❤️

Despite the frustrations and ongoing daily challenges, he never gives up.

Stroke recovery doesn’t simply end when someone comes home from hospital, and many of the lasting effects are invisible to others.

We are so grateful every day for how far he has come ❤️

Yesterday was our members-only Growth Community Beverley meeting at our new venue, The Kings Head, Beverley 💙

It was great to see our new meeting room and spend time catching up with other members to see how we can continue supporting each other and our businesses.

One thing I really value about our meetings is the openness of the conversations. Yesterday we discussed:
✔️ Something positive happening in our business
✔️ Challenges we’re currently facing
✔️ How the group may be able to help and support us

That supportive and collaborative approach is exactly what makes the group so valuable.

If you’d like to meet supportive, like-minded local business owners and employees, we’d love to welcome you along for a visit 😊

📍 Beverley – The Kings Head, Beverley
🕙 Every other Tuesday, 10am – 11.30am

Our next meetings are:
📅 2nd June
📅 16th June

There are now only 3 visitor spaces left for 2nd June, so please don’t leave it too late if you’d like to come along.

Another week that’s looked a little quieter on the outside… but still plenty happening behind the scenes at Just Now Financial Services 💙

This week included reviewing protection cover for a client whose circumstances had changed significantly.

They had previously owned their own business and had Executive Income Protection, Key Person Cover and Relevant Life Cover alongside some personal Critical Illness Cover. As they’ve now moved into employed work, we needed to reassess and restructure their protection accordingly.

Their partner had also previously been undergoing medical investigations and treatment, so we had been unable to proceed with their cover at the time. Thankfully, they have now been discharged, meaning we could finally review their options too.

A lot of time goes into the research side of my role — speaking with providers, comparing underwriting approaches and finding the most suitable solutions for each client’s circumstances before putting everything together into a recommendation presentation.

Following our meeting, we are now arranging:
✔️ Personal Income Protection for both clients
✔️ Critical Illness Cover
✔️ Life Cover for the mortgage

On Tuesday, I attended Growth Community Selby meeting at The Peppered Pig Inn. It was lovely to see returning faces and some new visitors too. Scarlett delivered her first showcase presentation and did a fantastic job 👏

Alongside this, I’ve also:
✔️ Spoken with a potential new client
✔️ Followed up on existing applications requiring medical reports

I intentionally planned a slightly lighter week this week as I’ve been preparing for a birthday event this weekend 🎉

Tonight is all about relaxing and recharging before another busy week ahead.

If you’d like to review your own protection arrangements — whether personal or business — feel free to get in touch for a no-obligation chat.

Another week that’s flown by 💙

Even with it being a shorter week, it’s somehow still felt very busy!

This week included:
✔️ Members-only networking with the Growth Community Beverley
✔️ Following up with two couples to finalise their cover after making some adjustments
✔️ A lot of behind-the-scenes admin, provider research and preparing recommendation letters
✔️ Continuing work on a Group Life case while awaiting some additional information
✔️ Speaking to a potential new client and arranging a follow-up call for next week
✔️ Supporting some newer partners in my side business on customer calls too

A lot of people only see the final recommendation or policy in place, but there’s often hours of research, pre-underwriting, provider conversations and admin happening behind the scenes to make sure clients get the right cover for their needs and budget.

This week has also been the usual juggle of business and family life too. Tuesday meant an earlier finish for Quinlan’s swimming lesson before fitting in my own swim while he was in the pool 🏊‍♀️

I also made time for a little self-care this week with an acupuncture session — something I’m trying to prioritise more.

Today is another busy one with more pre-underwriting, applications and appointments this evening.

Busy… but productive 😊

Last week looked a bit like this:

✔️ Pre-underwriting for 3 couples
✔️ 2 client presentations prepared and delivered (including a Friday evening meeting)
✔️ Members-only networking at the Selby Growth Community
✔️ A follow-up chat with a Company Director about Group Life cover
✔️ 2 webinars to keep up to date with product and system changes

A lot of what I do happens behind the scenes — speaking to providers, researching options and making sure everything is right for my clients. It’s time-consuming, but so important to get it right.

Friday evening ended as it usually does… at the pool 🏊‍♀️
A proud moment for us — Quinlan is moving up a swimming group!
Which now means… time to reshuffle the diary as swimming lessons are moving nights so he can keep the same instructor 😅

Saturday morning was another early start…
I squeezed in a swim while Quinlan was at a gym club and Warren headed off for acupuncture.

I also popped to the Humber Bridge Farmers Market and caught up with Vicki Lyon from The Green Goddess — always lovely to support local businesses 💚

The rest of the weekend was a mix of admin, family time, a bioresonance treatment, a shopping trip with my mum… and the usual household jobs in between.

Busy… but exactly how I like it 😊

Ready for another week ahead 💙

This is a slightly more personal post today… but one I felt was important to share 💙

Almost 2 years ago, my husband had a stroke.

At the start of this week, he became unwell — it seemed like just a stomach bug. The kind of thing most people recover from in a couple of days.

But when you’ve had a stroke, it’s not always that simple.

Fatigue is one of the biggest ongoing challenges he faces, and this week it’s really taken its toll. He’s been exhausted, sleeping on and off throughout the day, which is very unlike him.

I’ve been keeping a close eye on him — checking in regularly and making sure he’s monitoring his blood pressure — just doing what I can.

It’s also been tough for our son, who’s been understandably anxious seeing his dad unwell. Lots of reassurance needed, and a few disrupted nights too.

The reality is… there isn’t a quick fix.
We’re told to rest, and that’s about it.

We do what we can to support his recovery, including regular acupuncture, and we’ve managed to fit in an extra session this week to try and help.

What I’ve really learned over the last couple of years is this:

Just because someone is “back on their feet” after a stroke, it doesn’t mean they’re fully okay.

A stroke is a brain injury — and the effects don’t just disappear.

There are daily challenges that many people don’t see… but the family does.

If this post helps raise even a little more awareness, then it’s worth sharing 💙
