🔨 When insurance isn't straightforward

Recently, we helped a self-employed builder who was struggling to arrange his insurance.

He specialises primarily in timber buildings and had previously suffered a substantial loss. Unfortunately, when his previous policy expired, he was unable to arrange replacement cover online. With work continuing, he needed to find a solution.

Construction insurance is an area we have a strong level of experience in, so we approached a number of our insurance markets to discuss the circumstances and see what options were available.

Terms were offered by an insurer and, after reviewing these with the client, we received instructions to proceed with the cover.

One of our property owner clients in Hull got in touch after their tenant received an unusually high water bill.

Suspecting a hidden leak, we worked with our in-house claims team and the insurer to help get the situation moving.

We were able to put the client in contact with a loss assessor, who promptly reviewed the case and agreed that the trace and access costs could be covered — including the excavation needed to locate the leak.

A difficult situation for our client, but one where having the right insurance and support made a real difference.
