🎓RESP 101: What Every Parent Should Know in Canada

If you have children, an RESP (Registered Education Savings Plan) is one of the best ways to save for their future education.

Here’s why so many Canadian families open one early:

💰1. The Government Helps You Save
The Canadian government offers the CESG grant, which matches 20% of your contributions — up to $500/year per child.
That means if you contribute $2,500/year, the government can add another $500. FREE money for your child’s future.🎁

📈2. Your Money Can Grow Tax-Deferred
Inside an RESP, investments can grow over time through compounding without being taxed each year.
The earlier you start, the more time your child’s education fund has to grow.

⏳3. Starting Small Still Makes a Difference
You don’t need thousands of dollars to begin.
Even small monthly contributions can grow significantly over time when combined with government grants and compound growth.

🎓4. RESP Funds Can Be Used for Post-Secondary Education
RESP savings can help cover:
✔ Tuition
✔ Books
✔ Residence
✔ College or university expenses
✔ Certain trade schools and programs

💡The biggest mistake many parents make is waiting too long to start.

The earlier you begin, the more grant money and growth potential your child can benefit from.

4 TFSA mistakes that could cost you thousands $

Your TFSA can be one of the most powerful tools for building wealth in Canada—but only if you use it properly.

Here are 4 common mistakes to avoid:

1️⃣Putting in more money than you’re allowed to
Everyone has a TFSA limit. If you put in more than your available room, CRA can charge you 1% per month on the extra amount.

2️⃣Leaving all your money sitting in cash
A TFSA isn’t an investment by itself. Think of it as a container where you can hold different types of investments. If your goal is long-term growth, simply putting money in the account may not be enough.

3️⃣Taking money out and putting it back too soon
Let’s say you take $5,000 out of your TFSA this year. You generally need to wait until January 1 of the following year to get that $5,000 back as contribution room—unless you already have enough unused room.

4️⃣Never opening a TFSA in the first place
If you’re eligible but have never used a TFSA, you could be missing years of potential tax-free growth. Your unused contribution room can accumulate over time.

Every mistake on this list has a real dollar cost.

Comment “TFSA” if you want to learn and start your investment journey.

Most people learn these things too late.

Canada has plenty of tools to help you build wealth — but nobody really teaches you how to use them.

Save this. Share it with someone who needs to see it.❤️

Each week, we will bust some myths. This week, they relate to Investment.

🧓Myth 8: “Investing is only for older people”

❌Reality: Investing is actually most powerful when you're young.

Many people in their 20s think:

👉"I'll start investing when I make more money."
👉"Retirement is decades away."
👉"I have plenty of time."

The problem is that time is exactly what makes investing work.

⏰The earlier you start, the more time your money has to grow through the power of compounding.

Think about it this way:

Person A starts investing at age 25.
Person B waits until age 35.

Even if Person B invests more each month, Person A can still end up with significantly more money simply because they gave their investments an extra 10 years to grow.

That's the magic of compounding: your money earns returns, and then those returns start earning returns too.

🌱You don't need thousands of dollars to get started.

A small amount invested consistently can make a huge difference over time.
Whether you're Gen Z, a young professional, or just beginning your financial journey, the best time to start investing was yesterday.

The second-best time is today.

📈Wealth isn't built by waiting until you're older. It's built by giving your money time to work for you.

Self-Care Sunday tips help promote wellness and positivity.

This week's tip is to avoid overloading your schedule.

Leaving space in your day creates flexibility for rest, unexpected needs, and mental breathing room.

How much space is in your schedule?

Here are my biggest takeaways from last weekend’s Leadership Retreat.

If you want something different in your life, you have to be willing to do something different. Because most of the things we want in life are waiting outside our comfort zone.

And the older I get, the more I realize that life isn’t really about having the shiniest car or the biggest dream home. It’s about time. Time with your family. Being present for the people you love. Being there when they need you the most.

So maybe the question isn’t just “How much money do I want to make?” Maybe it’s also “What kind of life do I want that money to help me create?”

Have a goal. Know where you’re going. Because when you have a clear destination, it becomes so much easier to take the next step.

Life is too short to simply work for things. Build a life you actually want to live.

Here is an example of how disability insurance applies to an entrepreneur.

08/20/2026

🏢Business Owners: What Happens to Your Business Expenses If You Can't Work?

Most business owners know about disability insurance that replaces personal income.

But have you heard of Business Overhead Expense (BOE) Insurance?

Imagine you're unable to work because of an illness or injury.

Your income may stop, but your business expenses don't.

The rent still needs to be paid.
💡Utilities still arrive.
💻Software subscriptions continue.
👩💼Employees still expect their paycheques.
📞Phone and internet bills keep coming.

Business Overhead Expense Insurance helps cover eligible business expenses while you're disabled, helping keep your business running until you're able to return.

Think of it this way:
👉Disability Insurance protects your income.
👉Business Overhead Expense Insurance protects your business.

For many self-employed professionals, consultants, dentists, accountants, real estate agents, and small business owners, both coverages can play an important role.

Because you've worked too hard to build your business only to see it struggle because of a temporary health setback.

💭If you couldn't work for the next 6 months, would your business be able to survive its monthly expenses?
