Exploring the Galápagos: A Family Adventure with National Geographic
Deb, Kelly, and Carter recently returned from an unforgettable journey to the Galápagos Islands—a once-in-a-lifetime experience made even more special by the unique access and expertise of National Geographic’s expedition team.
Over the course of several days, the family found themselves swimming alongside some of the world’s most fascinating creatures: playful sea lions, curious penguins, majestic sea turtles, friendly sharks, and a vibrant array of fish species that seemed to dance around them in the turquoise waters. Thanks to the exclusive routes and conservation access granted through their National Geographic guides, the family experienced remote corners of the archipelago that few travelers ever see.
But the adventure didn’t stop at wildlife encounters. The knowledgeable guides also helped Deb, Kelly, and Carter turn their smartphones and SLR’s into pro-level cameras—walking them through settings and techniques to capture the beauty of the islands in stunning detail.
One of the more memorable (and amusing) stories from the trip highlights just how dominant wildlife is in the Galápagos. On one island, where sea lions outnumber humans two to one, the town once installed a water slide on the beach for local children. But it didn’t last long—sea lions quickly claimed the slide as their own, using it non-stop until it was eventually removed!
It was a journey full of wonder, laughter, learning, and deep appreciation for the natural world. A true reminder of the magic that exists when you go just a little further off the beaten path.
Navigating Today’s Markets with Confidence June 2025 Edition
As we move into the summer months, we want to take a moment to update you on the current market landscape and what it means for your investments.
We are continuing to closely follow the recent Midnight Hammer Operation by the US on Iran's nuclear sites and the further escalations in the area and how they may affect your portfolios.
Markets & the Economy – What’s going on? After a strong first quarter, markets have entered a more volatile phase. Several key factors are contributing:
• Interest Rates: Central banks globally, including the Bank of Canada, have paused further rate hikes for now. Inflation is cooling, but not yet at target, which has kept rate cuts on hold.
• Geopolitical Tensions: Events in Eastern Europe and the Middle East have kept markets on edge, leading to short-term fluctuations.
• Tech & AI Boom: AI-driven companies continue to push markets forward, especially in the U.S., though valuations are starting to face more scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the Canadian economy is showing signs of resilience, with stable job numbers and moderating inflation — although high interest rates are putting pressure on consumers and small businesses.
What this means for your portfolio? Periods like this are exactly why we build diversified, goal-aligned portfolios.
• Balanced Exposure: Your portfolio includes a blend of equity, income, and alternative strategies designed to cushion volatility while still capturing long-term growth.
• Staying the Course: Reacting emotionally to short-term headlines often causes long-term harm. History has consistently rewarded investors who stay patient and focused.
• Rebalancing Opportunities: We continue to monitor your portfolio and will make adjustments as needed to maintain the right risk level and asset mix.
At Lifeview Financial, we continue to take a steady hand on the wheel. We’re reviewing opportunities in global markets, dividend income, and fixed income that are now more attractive in this current interest rate environment. We remain focused on quality — not just performance.
We’re here for you. If you’re feeling uncertain or have questions about your portfolio, this is the perfect time to connect. We’re happy to walk you through the current environment, your investment plan, and any life updates that may impact your strategy.
“Waiting helps you as an investor and a lot of people just can’t stand to wait. If you didn’t get the deferred-gratification gene, you’ve got to work very hard to overcome that.” - Charlie Munger
Have a wonderful summer!
