Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour residential school Survivors, the children who never returned home, and their families and communities.

It’s an opportunity to pause, listen, and continue learning about Indigenous histories and experiences.

All Empire CPA offices are closed today in observance. We will reopen tomorrow, October 1, and resume regular business hours.

Planning an equipment purchase or technology upgrade? A new federal tax proposal could change how quickly your business can deduct the cost.

The proposed Productivity Mega Deduction would permanently expand immediate expensing to a broader range of capital investments, allowing businesses to deduct the full eligible cost in the year an asset becomes available for use. Depending on your business’s tax position, that could mean earlier tax savings and more cash available to reinvest.

An important update for BC business owners: the planned PST expansion to professional services is on hold.

The Province has announced it will pause the expansion scheduled for October 1, 2026, citing ongoing trade disruptions and economic uncertainty.

For Empire CPA clients, this means accounting and bookkeeping services will remain exempt from PST. The pause also covers architectural, engineering, and geoscience services, non-residential real estate services and commissions, and security and private investigation services.

For businesses already managing rising costs, this provides some welcome relief when budgeting for professional support.

The expansion has been paused, with no new implementation date announced. Our team will continue to monitor developments and keep you informed.

We’re excited to once again sponsor Our Neck of the Woods, returning to the heart of Maple Ridge on September 5!

Taking over Memorial Peace Park and the Downtown Core, this free, all-day community event brings together live music, local food trucks, cold drinks, family-friendly activities, and plenty of reasons to spend the day downtown.

The licensed event site will span Memorial Peace Park to 224 Street, with multiple stages and activity areas throughout, plus The Patch Brewery pouring all day.

A significant change to B.C.’s Provincial Sales Tax is coming this fall.

Effective October 1, 2026, the Province of B.C. will expand the 7% PST to several professional services that have historically been exempt, including accounting and bookkeeping, architectural, engineering, and geoscience services, security services, and certain non-residential real estate services.

For architectural, engineering, and geoscience services, PST will apply to 30% of the total service fee rather than the full amount.

These changes may have important implications for both businesses providing these services and those purchasing them.

With October 1 approaching, now is the time to understand how the new rules may affect your business and prepare accordingly.

Another great day on the course at our annual Colin Kellner Cup at Golden Eagle Golf Club.⛳️

Congratulations to this year’s champions, The Bear Chasers (Navi, Nancy, Davis and Hailey) on taking home the Colin Kellner Cup! 🐻🏆

A big shoutout as well to Team Flamingo (Paul, Kris, Shannyn and Jamie), who took home our inaugural Team Spirit Award for bringing the energy and enthusiasm all day long. 🦩

We also celebrated some impressive shots with our Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive winners. 🏌🏻‍♀️
