🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR ALBERTANS 🚨

Starting July 2, 2026, Alberta is introducing new driver's licences and identification cards with enhanced security features and added convenience.

Here's what you need to know:

✅ One Card, More Convenience

Your Personal Health Number (PHN) can now be integrated onto the back of your driver's licence or ID card.
Over time, this will replace the need to carry a separate Alberta Health Care card.

✅ Canadian Citizenship Marker

When you renew or apply for a new driver's licence or ID card, you'll be asked to provide proof that you are legally entitled to be in Canada.
Canadian citizens will have a "CAN" marker added to the top right corner of their card.

✅ No Additional Cost

The redesigned cards are available at no extra cost when you apply for or renew your licence or ID.

📋 What to Bring
When renewing or applying for your card, be sure to bring:
• Your current Alberta driver's licence or ID (if applicable)
• Your Alberta Health Care card (if you want your PHN added)
• Proof of legal entitlement to be in Canada (such as a Canadian birth certificate, passport, citizenship certificate, or other accepted documentation)

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Good News for Families
The rollout will happen in phases and will eventually include free ID cards with integrated health numbers for eligible children.
