A client recently invited me to their retirement party, and it struck me what a gift it is to be included in moments like these.

Sometimes I have to remind myself: this is my work. I’ve been fortunate to do this work for a long time. Many of the people I work with have become relationships measured in decades, not transactions. I’ve watched careers grow, businesses change hands, children become adults and families move from building wealth to enjoying it and ultimately thinking about the legacy they will leave behind. What an extraordinary privilege that is.

To be invited into that moment, not simply as someone who helped with the financial plan, but as someone who has been part of the journey, means more to me than I can properly put into words.

Retirement is something we spend years planning for on paper. We talk about income, investments, taxes, estate plans and all the pieces that need to come together. But then one day, it becomes real. The career ends. A new chapter begins. Family and friends gather to celebrate everything that came before and everything still ahead.

Being invited to celebrate the milestones we planned for together is one of the best parts of the work I'm lucky to be able to call my "job."
