— “We Are All In This Together”
This week’s Friday Forward comes from our recent trip to Japan, an experience we were incredibly grateful to have.
One of the biggest lessons we took away was the mindset of collective responsibility ,the belief that “we are all in this together.”
For centuries, the Japanese people have endured natural disasters, hardship, and rebuilding. Through that history, a culture rooted in resilience and respect for others has emerged.
We learned and what stood out most to us were three guiding principles that seem deeply woven into everyday life:
Patience. Order. Consideration.
You feel it everywhere — in the cleanliness of the cities, the calmness of public spaces, the respect people show one another, and the quiet pride in doing things the right way.
It was a powerful reminder that strong communities are often built through small daily actions and shared responsibility.
As we returned home, I found myself reflecting on how much we can learn from that approach, personally, professionally, and as a society.
Lead with kindness.
Support your neighbors.
Respect shared spaces.
And remember that resilience is often built together, not alone.
Grateful for the experience, the perspective, and the reminder that consideration for others still matters deeply.
